Smile Is Sweeny a good place to live?

Hi Everyone, My husband and I are possibly moving to Sweeny TX and I am trying to find out what kind of town this is. We live in small farming town in Indiana now and like that. We would like to keep with that kind of place. Are there things to do close by? Movies, museums, dining out, ect..? Any and all info you have would be a great help and very appreciated. Thank you. Have a great day and God Bless!!

Well, I grew up in Brazoria, and still have several friends in the area. Sweeny is right next door. There are places to eat there, but much of the other you asked about you will go to Lake Jackson for. Actually, Angleton also has a lot of that now, but I think Lake Jackson is a little bigger. It's not very far to drive there from Sweeny. Maybe 20-30 minutes. Sweeny is a very small town so you won't have culture shock as far as that goes. There is still lots of farming in that entire area. It's very green there too.

The people are friendly, so don't think you'd have any problems meeting people and as far as I know, the schools are decent. There's a lot of old Texas History in the Brazoria County area with Stephen F. Austins original settlers, Old Plantation homes and the Brazos River. You'll hear a lot about Washington-on-the-Brazos, as this area was a Capital town at one time in the early days.

Also, in line with things to do. Lake Jackson/Freeport has an aquarium. And you could go to the beach at Surfside or Quintana.

Can't imagine living in a community where parents allow their teens to disrespect the Pledge of Allegiance. The families involved should be gently urged to leave, if that doesn't work....they should be isolated and boycotted.

I lived in Bay City for a number of years and know a few that lived in Sweeny. It's VERY small, I suspect you're going end up driving to Lake Jackson, Angleton, or N to Houston suburbs a LOT. Especially considering your question about movies, museums, restaurants. I looked at a job in Sweeny a couple of years ago and my plan was to move to a Houston suburb (288) and commute. I just wasn't interested in living somewhere with just a handful of restaurants and nothing else going on.
