Question Need help on Taylor!!!

I've been reading this forum for a couple days now and I still have questions. My husband and I are considering a move to Taylor from the northeast. I'm a San Antonio native and have been up here waaaay too long. We have two sons, ages 11 and 12.

I'm not familiar with Taylor and cannot find any Texas relatives who are familiar with Taylor.

I can only find one review of Taylor High School. My children are in 6th and 7th in a Catholic school here. They might go to St. Mary's or the public middle school, both seem like good options. It seems like the closest Catholic High Schools are over 30 miles away so I would like to know what you think of Taylor High School. Our high school here in Pennsylvania is gigantic, but offers a top knotch education. I prefer small schools with a good academic program.

I know Taylor is completely different than Pennsylvania. Any thoughts you have on the town, immediate surrounding areas and recommendations for areas to look at homes and settle down would be appreciated. My husband would like to live in Taylor since he may work there, but we are open to other areas as well.

Thanks!
Fidd

I'll bet if you post this question in the Austin forum, you'll get help from Love Roses and the Texas Horse Lady.

We live in east Round Rock, and my husband used to work in Taylor. It was a quick and easy commute of under 20 mins. Let me guess, Ercot? That's basically the ONLY thing there....

It's a CUTE town, cute and small, quaint... very sleepy, small town feel. Schools are average - an involved parent would probably find them just fine, but they are not "exemplary".

You can get a lot of house for your money and will have the basics for shopping, Walmart.... for anything more (big box, mall stores, target, etc) you will drive into Round Rock - which like I said, is a quick drive. Some local places to eat, and some chain fast food (McDonalds) - but again, you will likely drive into Round Rock for anything else.

Hutto is the next town over from Taylor, heading into Round Rock, which will offer you some things by way of shopping and dining. It's think it's less populated than Taylor though.

Unless you are specifically looking for small town living, I would recommend also looking in Round Rock - which is known for it's school district.

Thank you Jenbar.

My husband and I *think* we will like small town living. We live in a medium size town right now in Pennsylvania and lived for a year in Cazenovia, NY. We loved Caz. I just hate the snow/ice combo we get here in the Lehigh Valley and miss Texas so much. The pics of Taylor, though, make it seem like a different world than what we are use to.

I'll copy my original message over to the Austin forum as Car957 suggested. I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Thanks again!

If you check this first, I posted something in the Austin forum. Funny how Car957 knew HorseLady and I would answer your post over there Because when I was reading it, she had posted an answer before I did. Jenbars pretty spot on too. They used to have a Walmart distribution center there, but it was moved. My brother in law works for Miller there in sales. Most jobs there are light industrial, freight, and distribution center things.
