Default Nice Part of Waco?

Is there a nice section of Waco? My hubby and I were there three weeks ago due to a possible relocation through work. We drove all around Waco in search of a nice, pretty neighborhood couldn't find one, just an abandoned downtown, slums and fast food restaurants. We drove to Hewitt, TX. The houses were nice but it was tract housing and not much of a neighborhood. Please if anyone knows of a nice section of Waco with a neighborhood feel please respond. I am very hesitant and uneasy to move there but it could be important to us. I don't mean to sound like a jerk or to disrespect those who live there and if I have I'm sorry. Thank you.

There are nice parts of Waco, just not near downtown. I think you should give Hewitt another shot. I don't know anything about the lake area but driving along Lake Shore Drive, past Lake Waco and towards Valley Mills I see nice homes. Off Lake Shore at Hillcrest there are nice streets too.

Also, try exploring some of the suburbs like Woodway, McGregor, China Spring, Robinson or Lorena. They will have more of a small town atmosphere but may give you the sense of community that it sounds like you are looking for. Waco does not have traffic so there is no need to worry about a commute.

I would recommend Hewitt or Woodway outside of Waco. I'm no longer there, but when I did have a house in Waco, I lived off of Valley Mills by the large HEB and there were many nice homes in that area. Don't give up, the areas are there!

Not to my recollection, homey. Even Temple outdoes that place. But Waco? That city practically blows. You are not missing anything.

Waco is a great place! We have all you need, without the traffic and big-city rat race madness.

What type of neighborhood are you looking for. Go to kellyrealtors.com and look at all of Waco and it's suburbs. Put your price range in and then click the "map it" button for each house you like. That will show you what part of town the houses YOU LIKE are in. Then drive around those neighborhoods.

I don't know what your looking for or where you're from or what you're used to, so if you're from Steamboat Springs, don't expect to see those kind of mountains here. If you're from the Piney Woods, don't expect to see 200 ft tall trees.

Hope this helps

Oh, and don't listen to people that use terminology like "this place blows homey". When I hear people talk like, their credibility drops to zero.

Default Nice Parts of Waco

Waco is an old towns on its way back from Plant and Air Base closings.

A GREAT area to live is China Spring. Good quiet living, and a great school.

People who can afford it, live in Hewitt or Woodway, or even out Hwy 84.

The Gholson area (west of Elm Mott) has great living as well.

Inside Waco, there are good areas too. The west end of Valley Mills Drive is nice. Also, near Bellmead, Timbercrest is pretty quiet and ranges from 80-160,000.

There are a few very nice neighborhoods scattered within the City. Past 30ths between Waco and Franklin (Castle Heights), Past 30th on Maple and Colcord. And anything out Hillcress and MacArthur from Hillcrest Hospital is very nice. If you have children, though China Spring or Hewitt is your best bet.
