Cool Fort Stockton or Hobbs??

Hi-
I'm a proud 2005 graduate of Texas Tech B.S. Human Dev. & Fam. Studies.

I'm returning to Lubbock with a friend sometime before Spring 2008 to see some other friends before they graduate Tech.

It's a grand old tradition that we leave Lubbock sometime during our visit for some relatively faraway place for their quirkiness and quirky hole-in-the-ground restaurants.

Our choices at present are Tex-Mex at Mi Casita in Fort Stockton or a hamburger at Burger Builders in Hobbs. These were suggested to me by a friend from Fort Stockton who now lives in Denton & a friend from Lovington who now lives in Big Spring. I've been to none of these places but Denton & Big Spring.

Any quirky dining/quirky tourism suggestion(s) would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

fallguy

I'm glad you asked! There's a fellow from Delicias, Mexico that has a bbq chicken stand on the main drag in Seminole, TX, about 30 miles east of Hobbs. Has several barrel type grills with dozens of whole chickens splayed out on them. Plus sausages and turkey legs. I tell him I want a half chicken, his assisstant brings it to him, he takes a meat cleaver to it on a wood butcher's block, puts it in a to go container with salsa, really tasty purple onions, and tortillas. Absolutely the best chicken I've ever eaten!

Thank you to all respondents. When I reach Lubbock with one friend
who undoubtedly doesn't want to go to Seminole, TX/Hobbs, NM, hopefully I can find another friend who wants to sample the culinary delights in these 2 towns, Hobbs' being Burger Builders.

ttyl,
fallguy

You can't miss him. Coming from Lubbock look on the left next to a Mexican restaurant. They're just past the Town and Country store on the right. Has some kind of spice mixture on the chicken that's really good.

Hi All-
I have chosen Hobbs over Fort Stockton as the "30 min. vacation" from Lubbock.

Hopefully my Cousin Dave in Abilene (Merkel) will be able to help me with Fort Stockton.

Thanks & talk to you when I get home from Lubbock/Hobbs.

fallguy

How about some fresh seafood at west Texas' ocean? The Permian Basin used to be a saltwater sea (in prehistoric times), and the Permian Sea Shrimp company farms shrimp in Imperial Texas, and also runs a great little cafe there. It's at the intersection of FM1053 and Hwy 11, south of I-20.
