I run this thread in my effort to summarize the differences ( & the similarities ) of the climate of the big 4 TX cities,Houston,S. Antonio,DFW,Austin.

Comments from people who have lived in all 4 cities r especially valuable...

Well,
I grew up on the Texas Gulf Coast and Houston and am currently in the Austin area. Houston is a lot more humid than Austin, but I'm not sure it's actually hotter. Austin still has humidity, just not as thick. San Antonio is similar to Austin, and Dallas tends to get the coldest winters of the 4 listed.

I would think of the 4, Dallas would get more of the 4 seasons. Austin and San Antonio would be similar in weather and Houston would be much more humid. I don't know if it gets hotter in the summer than the other 3, but it would feel warmer because of the humidity.

If you go to the city data home page, you can follow the links around to look up specific numbers on climate for the cities you mentioned:

There are a couple threads that have been posted on here in the past that have this same topic, I think. Anyway, the differences between SA and Austin, weather-wise, are pretty much insignificant. Houston is more humid than the other three, Dallas is hotter and colder than the others with more winter than the others. Dallas probably has more severe weather twister-wise and hail-wise, while Houston obviously has the potential for hurricanes. SA/Austin are more of a flash flood area, although you see those in the DFW area and 'regular' flooding in Houston.

Houston hot summers, mild winters, more rainfall, more cloudy days, more humid. Ice/snow very rare.
Austin / San Antonio hot summers, mostly mild winters, slightly humid. Summer temps slightly higher than Houston, fewer cloudy days, occasional winter ice.
Dallas hotter summers, more winter, less rainfall. More extremes in temperatures, occasional snow/ice.

The biggest noticable difference is that Houston is far more humid.

The summer weather heat wise is not noticably different in any of the cities. They will feel the same.

Dallas gets about 5-10 degrees colder at its coldest. The city shuts down about twice a winter because of ice storms closing the roads. You don't really get this as much in Houston or Austin or SA. I kinda like that about Dallas though--the crisp cold breeze does feel good on your cheeks on occasion.

Same as anywhere else in the Dallas area, however, if there is ever an ice or snow storm during the winter in North Texas, Denton gets hit worse than Dallas because its further north towards the Red River.
