Where is a great area in Texas to finish raising a family that has horses and other animals that need room to roam?
We would like to know of some areas in Texas that a family with a small son and two teenage daughters could afford to buy property and live with out going broke. I have spent some time in San Antonio and I like the area, but to many people. We would like somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of a city, the smaller the better. Schools are important, and sport programs are nice. We would need an area that is not a toxic waste site. (I read about a town in Texas with that problem) With animals, we need to have a supply of water. We don't want an area that may run out of water next year or in ten years. Since we lived in Arizona, we know water is a precious resource and one you don't waste. As a family, we like to hunt, fish and ride horses. My girls love softball and basketball. We need to be able to conduct these family outings with out driving across the state.
Any information we can get would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

too vague a question-there is abundance of wide open spaces for horses and livestock and other animals. this is Texas!
you would need to decide what kind of geography, climate, and culture you are looking for first

I agree w/ bellestaroftexas. What you describe...there would be an abundance of that in Texas. You need to narrow it down to climate, trees or no trees, hills or no hills, how close to a big city and job prospects. Also...cost of houseing. Everything you decribed is available ...but Texas is a Huge state and you get to be a little more picky than that! Give us a little more idea of what you ant and we can direct you!

Agreed. I can think, right off the top of my head, of several places in the general Austin area (in the five or six counties surrounding it) that might suit, but we need more details.
And several in East Texas, as well.

We recently moved to Stephenville from Wyoming onto 17 acres with a large tank (pond, where I come from!) with our horses to be close to some great public arenas (3), horse events and trail riding all within an hour or less of home. No children at home but, the public schools are considered very good with a great sports programs and big small town support! There's a major hospital, Tarletson State University, Lake Proctor (DeLeon), major retailers and an hour or so to DFW Metroplex when you feel the need. Moderator cut: advertising
