Default So what is the deal?

I am trying to figure out what you can and can't do in Texas (we are contemplating a move to Houston) I currently live in "Amish Country" of PA and it is quite conservative. We can only buy beer from a beer distributer (who choose their own hours, but many are closed on Sundays) We can only buy a case at a time UNLESS they have a food store attached to them and you can buy six packs. You can also get a six pack from some restaurants. Liquor and wine are only at state stores, again the hours depend on what the location of the state store is.

I'm from VA originally and it is set up that you can buy beer and wine pretty much anywhere (and in any amount, singles, six-packs, etc.) with the only regulation being that you can't get it after 12 am on Sunday until 12pm on Sunday. Liquor is only sold at state run ABC stores. Is this what Texas is like?

Thanks!

I think that pretty much depends which county that you move to. The Blue laws for most merchandise as I remember disappeared around 1985 or so. All shopping malls were closed on sundays prior to that and beer and wine were only sold til 12 PM on sunday just like you mentioned. If you currently live in a "dry" county, you may go to a "private" club (restautant, bar) and buy a token $1-2 membership fee which allows you access to buying liquor in that bar. In some dry cty cases, you may have to drive to the next county over in order to stock up on your supplies. don't move to a "dry" area.

I think the "dry county" thing is mostly limited to North Texas... DFW area, NE Texas, Lubbock / Panhandle, etc. You won't find that in the Houston area.

The Texas rules (for all the non-dry counties) are this: Beer and Wine can be
sold from 7am to 12midnight (1am saturday), and 12noon to 12midnight Sunday. Stores that sell hard liquor must be closed on Sunday. Bars can serve until 2am every day.

Thanks for the replies. we are looking in the Katy, Sugarland area. I'll check and see if they fall in a "dry" zone.
