Hey yall...My hubby and I are very interested in moving to the Temple area...we live in Austin but hate the city (not Austin itself, just hate living in a city)...we want to be in a smaller town. Commute isn't an issue for us as far as work goes. We are looking to buy a home around 180-200K and it seems like Temple has a lot of inventory in that range. We aren't religious but we don't want to be in heavy liberal area. It also seems like Temple is really being fixed up and adding some cool new shops and restaurants. If anyone has any experience with that area, I'd love to hear it!!

The Temple-Belton area has seen much growth over the years, much to the west and the south. There are areas that are in the Belton school district. City of Temple has continuously made improvements to their parks, there are walking paths in different areas, plans are to connect all paths in the city. Neighborhood associations are being formed throughout Temple, most are on Nextdoor.com. New restaurants are always popping up in different parts of the city. Baylor Scott and White Hospital is here as is McLane's Children Hospital.

There’s a lot to like about the Temple area. We head that way frequently. The only negative I can think of is the ongoing, seemingly-perpetual, terribly disruptive and frustrating traffic-congestion-causing construction on I-35. Most of it can be avoided depending on where and when you need to go, though.

Luckily I-35 through Temple should be finished soon, but like Leorah said there's lots of ways to avoid it living there. West Temple is really exploding with growth lately and many new subdivisions popping up where you can get a new home in that price range.

Belton runs into Temple and worth a look. More of a small town feel, and a better school district. Less housing inventory though, ecspecually in that range. But all in all Temple is a nice area.

We love Belton. Such a cute town and close to the two lakes for fishing and what not since we love the outdoors. (not that Temple is much farther haha)

I have been living in Texas for 25 years now, and have traveled often between Austin and Tyler, and that stretch of highway has literally been being worked on the entire time. I don't get it. Whoever has that contract is rolling in dough though.
