Need good schools environment for them. Boy Scouts, activities etc.
Hopeful to buy a nice house 4 or 5 bdrm under 300k
Where is some new construction??

If you are in the IT field, automatically, Austin comes to mind, with Dallas second. Austin ISD is great for being a city ISD.

You can find some 4 bedrooms under 300k in the metro area, but unless you are in far south Austin, you will have to look into the suburbs. The Dallas area is definitely more affordable than Austin.

Overall, it depends what you are looking for and what is more important to you and your family. If you are more into arts, museums, and professional sports, then you may want to consider Dallas. If you are more into outdoor activities, a central location, great education, and don't mind higher prices, Austin might be more appealing.

The average price for a new build that size in the Dallas area is now around $450k. If you aren't aware, Dallas has been one of the fastest appreciating real estate markets in the country coming out of the recession. The days of a $200k new home are pretty much gone unless you're willing to take on a massive commute from the bedroom communities that are our past the final ring of suburbs.

And DFW is all about the commute. You definitely want to know where you're working before you look for a place to live or else you cold end up with a 90 minute commute (each direction) and a $300/ mo toll tag billl.

Try adding another $150,000 to that to be realistic.
