I'm hoping someone can help me with some info I've been unable to find. My other half and I are considering a move to Dalhart, TX. I've been looking into the town and found all sorts of helpful information except what I'm really looking for. Tornado Alley, Dalhart is sorda part of it but not really. So I'm trying to figure out just how many tornadoes have hit there or how likely they are to hit in the future. (I mean not that we can really predict that.) Well anyway the maps show it in the yellow zone meaning 1-5 but I could only find record of one and it was called a wedge tornado, whatever that means. Please help.

The following links will give your great tornado information as well as other weather events. The second link was kind of confusing at first to me for getting the information I needed but once I got the "hang of it", I found it to really be great.

NCDC Storm Events-Select State

Fly Tornado Paths Using Google Earth (http://climate.engin.umich.edu/tornadopaths/ - broken link)

By the way, I looked up the two counties on the NCDC site where Dalhart sits (Dallam and Hartley) and in 57 years, both of them had stats of only 27 tornadoes all an F2 or smaller. The DFW metroplex area is way greater than that, especially Tarrant and Dallas. I would have thought the Dalhart area would have been much worse.

Here is a link about wedge tornadoes. It's a shape. Looking at those photos makes me wish Spring was already in the past and never to return. I hate them.

My dad worked some in Dalhart. As I recall, it did not have nearly as many alerts as we had in Pampa. I spent most of every spring underground waiting for the elusive tornado that rarely hit.

You'll always be subject to some kind of tornado activity when you're in the Panhandle. Never let your guard down, and always be prepared.
