I live in Victoria
Hi there. I have lived in Victoria for 10 years. There is racism everywhere. But people are good about hiding it. I have to be honest, that the vast majority of people here are white and hispanic decent. To me there is a very small population of black people here. I am not black so I have no idea how black people are truely treated here. I am raising 3 beautiful black girls right now. Everyone has kind words for them, but everyone also wants to know if they are MINE.
The hispanic and black children/teens are all almost one in the same. Listen to the same music and whatnot.
Now as far as flat out racism, like white people running around using the n word or racial discrimination or racial crimes...I have not seen or heard anything like this. We are seeing more and more bi-racial couples too. I come from a large city and where there is a little of everything.
Has anyone mentioned to you how humid it is here? In the summer it is so thick you can cut it with a knife! LOL But I hate it.
Can I ask why you are moving here?

Why I'm moving to victorua
Hi thanks everybody for your replies.
To answer aintsureboutnothin on why I'm moving to Victoria, it's first about the weather. I'm here at Omaha, Nebraska and my body really doesn't like the weather here, too changing from an extreme to another one. It's really a health issue. Also I heard about Victoria Community College not being that expensive. Good for kids!
When you are talking about humidity in Victoria, can you give more information about the weather? I'd appreciate it. thanks a lot buddy.

Well today the humidity was 77%. It really didn't feel too bad though since it was cool. But the air usually always feels damp, and when it is summer time you never have to iron your clothes. Just step outside for a few minutes and the wrinkles will fall out! No way you can put a fan in your window in the evening, even when it's cool outside. because then your house will be damp, your bed, your couch....eeewww.
I have to be honest it has been hard on me to live here, the trees are very small and look like bushes and the land is very flat. But the winters here make us forget about the sauna we live in the rest of the year!!

interesting you say the south has a racial problem. i dont think that Memphis and New Orleans have a racial problem. I think they have a violence problem. I dont see much of that transmitting into white on black violence I see it mostly black on black violence. I pray that my sick brothers be healed of the poison of hatred and violence. I have a dream.

Oh, my, I soooooooo don't miss that about South Texas! Every time the weather conditions pop up on my computer and I see the low, low humidity, I get a BIG smile on my face, LOL. Today when I got up, the humidity was 19%. I also don't miss the mosquitos and those ugly beetle-looking bugs that would throw themselves at your front door and windows at night. Eeeeewww

The South is like most of America and the discrimination is more socio-economic. I've experienced racial epithets being spray painted on my bussiness, even though we had a multi-cultural customer base and employees. It's more anomolous than it is the norm. Most of the so-called Black, Hispanic, Asian neighborhoods are the majority made up of their designation. The better "white" neighborhoods are pretty much like living in California. Alot of resentment (Black>White) still exists because; if you're over 40, you've probably lived through the incidents that most people only saw on T.V. . I think that the South is still 2 generations away from not just being tolerant but actually accepting of different cultures. But like everywhere else, it's what you make of it. You'll probably experience more Black to White racist views than White to Black.
