gave you rep points. i am so tired of this "pc" world. there is one hostile member of this forum who actually threatened bodily harm toward me on the federal installation i work at (but knew enough not to do it here on this forum, but rather, added a comment to a country western music video i had posted to youtube)....this person continue to comment on here with veiled threats and hostility, anytime he thinks someone made a comment that is racist in his mind. i hate having to walk on eggshells. had someone been bluntly honest with me, i would have not made a mistake of moving to a certain area in Texas to begin with, and spent the worst year of my life!!

ONE your in the bible belt the part that frowns on Gay's, SECOND your in the bible belt that does not like to see one of those with one of these mentality. So yes your going to have problems.. oh you have a child.. expect hell to freeze over for that kid. There is Racism in many forms all over the place. I see it everyday being a White Male in a Hispanic Majority.. like the need to speak spanish to work at McDonalds as an example... But the PC crowd will say don't like it move... or they call me a racist for not agreeing to it. So yeah there is going to be problems all over. Victoria impressed me though by the two Chambers becoming one.. it showed Unity in its people and its chambers and to me that is a good thing.
you summed it up very well, muhnay...at least imho. I can honestly say (like you say) that i have really never seen any overt sanctioned "ism" against "gays" or blacks or hispanics or whatever, in texas. But...for some reason, there are those who make a living and/or chose a self-righteous path to dig it out...anyway, you pegged it right. We are a conservative state in a conservative part of the country. And if someone moves down here, then it is up to them to adapt and, if not do as the romans do, then at least don't expect us to change how we do it......
We texans/southerners really are the most tolerant people in the country...in the true and classic definition of the adjective and virtue. No, our definition of "tolerance" does not mean embracing and touting of every single trendy chic "progressive" (whatever that means) thing that comes along in the name of it. But rather, live and let live...and a natural understanding of how to do so...!
Simple as that. Don't you think, my friend?
I tried to give you rep points, too, but....
I'm SICk of getting that message!!!

They will seize upon the most obscure and isolated episodes to point fingers and say something like "Texas is a racist state and Texans are mostly "racist" (or whatever) but do so totally oblivious to worse problems in their own backyards.

my family is relocating from IA. i am ready for WaRMER weather year round and no more blizzards. Does anyone know of any apartments or townhomes in Victoria. I am looking for honest opinions of Victoria and the crime rate ect. From what I see its minimal. How are the schools? I have 3 kids. 7 4 and 3. I see you have many parks and your town looks beautiful. Oh and is cost of living high in Victoria? Thanks
Well to each is his own, this is really not my concern. I respond to someones post and gave my experience on it. You dont have to come at me so harsh. And if the hispanics dont like blacks it their lose because their considered minorities to and looked at in just the same manner. Especially with them moving more south now.......Luckily I live in a place that just excepts all races and you dont hear of the racial crap unless your dealing with the gangs out here. There is no pure race anymore, my oldest son looks hispanic, and my other children have red skin, so what? there is this thing called ancestory.....hello! NO PURE RACES EXISTS ANYMORE!!!!!!!!

the cost of living in victoria is very affordable. When i lived there i lived on lawndale, but those are only one and two bedrooms, try looking at apartments.com of move.com
I find it very interesting (not to mention suspicious) that most of the people that identified themselves as Texans in their thread either claimed racism was a product of 'other states', that it was just as bad as other states and no worst, or that there was no racism in Texas.
I grew up in south texas, and am SHOCKED too see how many people here claim its not racist at all. I dont know what state they were living in, but the south Texas I grew up in (and my family is from gonzales County, I grew up in SA) is NO place to place on a 'non-racial pedastol'. Police profiling, hate crimes, racist jokes, workplace discrimination are all at least as common as other states in the south (with the exception of maybe louisiana, where it is much worst). If you are hispanic, and you are in areas where hispanics are not the majority, expect to be treated as a possible 'illegal', unintelligent, lazy, and a potential cholo or criminal. If you are black and in a white area, expect bad looks, clenched purses, to be followed around by security and stopped frequently by police (especially if you have a good job and drive a nice car). If you are gay, be expectant of people who wont touch you, assuming you have aids, and verbally (or worst) harassed by locals. Likewise, domestic abuse towards women has always been a big problem in the entire state, and is rarely reported by its victims.
In each case, it is not simply 'just white folks' who will perpetrate such acts, every group is equally racist. Granted, there are many many non-racist, decent people who just want to be left alone. Unfortunately like many other things, the idiots out there are more noticeable and make everyone else look bad.
Search 'hate crimes in texas', or Jasper, or Tulia, or countless other incidents within the last 15-20 years. Youll see in each case people swearing race had nothing to do with the incidents, when it obviously (and would later be proven) did.
Its easy to look at a place with rose colored glasses, but I would not want to move anywhere thinking its the best place on earth only to discover its got its problems like anywhere else.
