Austin's #1, DFW is a very distant 4th, and Houston/San Antonio could go either way for 2nd/3rd depending on what you fancy.

I do prefer the more rolling terrain of DFW over pancake flat Houston, but both would be behind Austin & San Antonio.

Austin, but not by a landslide, in my opinion. It loses points for having a drier landscape, as I greatly prefer the ultra-green, towering tree canopy of East Texas. The problem with Houston is that it simply isn't built into its natural environment in an attractive way. Savannah, Georgia is flat as a pancake as well, but I'd bet most find it to be a prettier city than Austin.

DFW and San Antonio have their beautiful areas, but are overall less striking than the other two.

The best natural beauty in Texas is not near an MSA. It is somewhere in rural West Texas.

When you say Houston, are you including Brazoria County and Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula? And the Woodlands?

Yes, all those areas are part of the Houston MSA.
