Default Poteet Strawberry Festival

Has anyone been to this? Would it be fun for a 3.5 year old (and parents!)? Is it worth the drive from DFW?

I went about 15 years ago and it may have changed, but I would not say it's worth a long drive. It was pretty podunk and they said the ran out of their strawberries early and had to buy California strawberries for the rest of the festival. Again, this was a long time ago and it might be much more fun now.

I was there 2 or 3 years ago. My kids and I felt it was barely worth the drive to the next county from San Antonio, so there's no way I would recommend it as a special trip from DFW.

It's a lot like the other local festivals around this area. It consists of concessions, flea market, carnival rides, skill game booths and a few "shows" that showcase local singers and dancers.

A 3.5 year old is going to mind the ride between there and DFW much more than any enjoyment that this festival would offset.

If it involves strawberries, then it's most definitely worth the drive from the North Pole!

I grew up in San Antonio and most of my family was from Poteet, so I attended many a strawberry festival as a youngster.

The carnival was always a high point for me and was worth any drive, no matter how much I hated driving at the time. The carnival has grown a great deal since then and is pricy as most carnivals are nowadays.

At 3.5 the parade may be impressive to her, it gets old after 4 or 5 years as it seldom changes much and is pretty small from an older perspective. They can't throw candy anymore so most of what I liked as a 5yr old is missing from it. I didn't care much for all the other towns beauty queens or the antique cars. I did enjoy the old fire trucks and the shriners. The parade is early on Sat morning.

I had a lot of family to spend the day with, so my carnival time was limited to just a few hours back then. It might take most of the day to do all the rides and see all the shows now.

As an adult, I don't know that I would do it very often from DFW, but once or twice while the kiddie is young might make a very nice memory for her.

Oh, and as to the strawberries. Ancient Chinese secret, but the strawberry season really starts in late April to early May. The only true Poteet strawberries during the festival are a few farmers who plant early and hothouse grow a small crop for the fair competitions. Nearly all of the strawberries sold on the roadside are imported from California. There are a few execptions, but you may have to search for them and they will be premium priced.

Cool Just Bring Me Some

As long as someone can bring me big, fat, red strawberries so I can enjoy them right here, I'm happy. You can send them via UPS Ground.
