A high-speed rail is being considered from Houston to Dallas at the moment. Do you support that, and would you support more of them all over Texas? Why or why not?

No. I want to have a car when I get to where I'm going.

I mean you don't have to personally want to use something to support it?

I think having more options would be great. I personally would prefer rail to flying or driving from Dallas to Houston. I don't really even use a car when I visit friends in Houston anyway. If we go out, we get an uber/lyft, if we are going to a musuem or something we either uber or they drive since they know where they are going. Likewise if I was going for business I would just take an Uber/Lyft.

I like a good roadtrip as much as anyone and it won't be practical for a train to go everywhere. I can't (or wouldn't want to) take a train camping for example.

That said I've taken buses to Austin before, and I would much prefer to be able to take a train from Dallas to Houston, Austin, San Antonio, etc.

I agree. When I'm in DC and need to go to NYC or Boston, the train is vastly superior to driving or flying in every way. It's even competitive with driving price-wise for a single person (not so much if you're talking about an entire family).

Options are a good thing just because you don't actually have to personally use them to benefit from them, you'll benefit from less traffic on the roads if you are one of those people that absolutely must drive everywhere.

Those "options cost money - a lot of it. There's not a train system out there - even in the northeast, where they're widely used - that operates in the black.

IOW, another taxpayer-funded subsidy.

Yeah, while thats true, the our highways aren't paid for with the Gas Tax either, they are subsidized too. Same with the airlines.

No. If it isn't relevant to me, my family or close friends, then I wont be concerned with it.

Understandable. The last-mile problem always pops up when taking long-haul public transportation. Whether flying or taking the train, you will end up having to be picked up or renting a rental car to maneuver around the city to get to your destination.

Flying or riding the train makes sense when leaving the region, but having to rent a car or depend on a friend/Uber for a trip to an adjacent metro is too much of a hassle if it can be comfortably driven.
