I live in a small town, 13K, 40 miles ENE of Austin...great town but we all sweatin' the location of Trans Texas Corridor. A major landgrab by private interests looking to loot rural Texas landowners. Beware of this when choosing.

Small towns
There are several great small towns in north central Texas. Near Lake Texoma with many outdoor activities. Tornados are a threat anywhere in Texas, but like the people in California with earthquakes and along the coast with hurricanes, you learn to live with it. Try Pottsboro, Gunter, Van Alstyne, Howe, Bells, Whitesboro. DFW and Love Field within 1 1/2 hour drive.

Crane texas?? 40 min from another isolated place Odessa Midland. Are you serious ? Yes Ive been there and theres a reason its losing population - not that it has much to lose....
I do like small towns. Rockport is right on the ocean -friendly safe scenic yet only 20 min from Corpus Christi.
brenham isnt bad - has a great rabbit show each year. Anything in the panhandle is desolate - forget it. I lived in Hereford 17 days 19,000 people 650,000 cows pent up around town and at any given moment 23,465 were going to the bathroom - the place STANK.

Albany is a GREAT town. Around 2000 people, great schools (around 550 pre k -K), 35 minutes to Abilene, by several nice lakes. We have Fandangle that most of the town takes part in, an art museum, a dance theater, the Aztec Theater, a small but nice downtown and lots of nice people!

I went to college in San Angelo and loved it. I like the west TX area. It has its own beauty.

San Angelo and the Oil Patch of BS/Midland/Odessa are worlds apart.SA is a nice semi desert city. The Oil Patch is considered by most Texans to be the armpit of Texas, with the actual city of Midland being slightly better than an armpit. There is a lot,no,a ton of money to be made there right now,but that is the only reason to suffer through that area.

I live in Fredericksburg which is a touristy area in the hill country in Central Texas.
Something going on almost every weekend here or the surrounding towns especially in the summer.
You can choose to live in town or out in the country.
PM me for any more info on Fbg.
