Considering moving to Sout Texas- Perhaps Brownsville area (Galveston, Howe: living in, beach)

Hi guys. My name is Nick. I currently live in a small town called Jonesboro, Arkansas. complete drag. nothing to do. and not to mention the New Madrid fault and increase in flooding. Long story short...Im ready to get out! I'm 22 year old male part latino and native american. My girlfriend is 25y.o. black female, and my father is 46 yrs old. He isnt in the best of health so i am helping to take care of him. We are trying to find a place appealing to all of us and a nice place to raise our daughter. (shes only 2 and already loves the outdoors) We all enjoy the beach and having never lived near one, would deffinately enjoy the change. We love nature as well so perhaps a smaller city outside of Brownsville (area). However, I have heard bad things about the water along the gulf coast, like being muddy and stuff. I hear it gets clearer the farther south and closer to Mexico you go. Any suggestions? We are considering brownsville because it is close to the ocean as well as Mexico, and we hear Matamoros is a place rich in culture and great food. I would like to hear feedback from people living in the area or have travelled to the area. (Galveston to Brownsville) Also a non-racial place is a plus. Thanks in advance.
