I would definitely say Fort Concho is something to see. True, it's nowhere near like visiting the Alamo but, it's real Texas history and there's quite a bit you can learn there at the fort. We are having events there just this weekend as part of the Concho River Festival here in town.

I myself am an old west actor/re-enactor and I have participated in a few of the events there at the fort. My wife & I attended Christmas at Fort Concho in 2005 as historical participants and it was a wonderful time. I have attended other events as a Confederate soldier but that seems to confuse folks so, I just go as an old west actor now, lol.

If you're into history & especially Texas history, you definitely want to put Fort Concho on your to do visit list.

I think Fort Concho is a fine place & it served well for it's purpose here in the Concho Valley. When ever I get visitors here, I take them to see the fort, then we go to Eggemeyers then to the park. Fort Concho has a lot to offer for history buffs and if I could live at the fort, I would do it in a minute. I couldn't believe that some years back that the city actually rented the place out as homes/apartments???

Lived in Angelo for about 15 years & the fort is truly historic.

If you get a chance to head west, include a trip to it's sister fort at Fort Davis. The mountains are beautiful & you can spend a week exploring all the sites.

Totally agree! That area of West Texas is my favorite place in the world, and Ft. Davis is definitely worth visiting. Last year we visited for the Annual Fort Day in late August.

Everytime I'm there I get a mental picture of John Wayne in a Calvery Uniform. Closest thing to true old west.

Exactly! There's something about that part of the country that resonates with history. Walking through the old fort buildings you can almost hear the sound of boots on the old wood floors and the hoofbeats of the calvary horses.

Thank you to all respondents...I'll take Fort Concho under consideration.

Fort Davis is great, I've just been there to the town late at night via Lubbock/Albuqeruque/Santa Fe/Roswell but skipped UFO Museum...heard not worth it/Carlsbad Caverns/Marfa/Alpine/Fort Davis & back to Lubbock for 1300 miles in just
43 hrs!!
