Hello,

I am a full time working mom with a special needs daughter (7 yrs) planning to move from NYC to Plano Tx. I also have 12 yrs old son and 2 yrs old daughter.

I am looking for great school district for all my children including various services for my special need daughter. currently she is getting OT, PT, ST and ABA. She is nonverbal with multiple cognitive disabilities.

Please advise which county will be the best place to start looking and what kind of services and all the pros/cons about Plano overall.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Papri

A good place to start in looking for help regarding special needs is a non profit organization called The ARC... Plano is covered by two ARC areas, depending on where exactly you might live......the links are below.

About - The Arc NTX

https://www.arcofdentoncounty.org/

ARC can act as advocates and attend ARDs with you, they can help you find local resources, and they can certainly fill you in on the best academic/special ed programs in the area. I would give the ARC a call, and speak with their people to gain insight into the special ed programs that are available, and which school district might be the best for your daughter.

Just a hint, school districts in Texas don't follow municipal (town) boundaries....always check which specific school district a potential house is zoned to, before making a decision on where you will live.

I think Plano is a real nice suburb. What is your budget for housing in Plano?I think Collin County is the county you should start looking in.

North Dallas is a fairly affluent area. I don't think you will have a problem finding good healthcare options. Several school districts in that area are rated in the top 20 in the state.
