We are looking into this! There is a neat grocery store in Marathon that we may be able to do this through. Cant wait to try the brewery in Alpine though!

ShutterWeb, how do you like Alpine? My husband may be getting a job there. We are looking into it and so far I like what I see/read. How are the schools? How's the real estate? Is it pretty there?

Hi! My husband is actually in Marathon, about 30 miles from Alpine but I have been through Alpine often and I believe that is where we will plan on buying a house within the next 2-3 months. I come from a large city, the quiet is nice, the lack of crime is even better. I am not sure about the schools but I will be attending Sul Ross University (at the ripe age of 32 ) and can't wait. The housing seems to me pretty decent check out the Big Bend Real estate guide for housing in Alpine, Carpenter reality seems to be one of the bigger brokers Home As for it being pretty, I think that it is. Having lived my entire life in Albuquerque, NM I was pleased to see that the topography, flora and fauna was very similar. Here are some of my photos from ABQ to Marathon (driving from I-25 South through El Paso (I-10) then taking I-90 at Van Horn > Valentine > Marfa > Alpine > Marathon) Going to see Brian - a set on Flickr

then my husbands photos of his rigs (halfway between Marathon and Ft. Stockton, he is a geologist) Brian's Photos of Marathon - a set on Flickr

I like it, and though being away from hubby has been hard, I drive enough to see him every couple weeks (he works 3 weeks on, one week off) so I see him mid shift, then when he comes back to ABQ. I should be moved up there by mid August.

Even though my grandpa ended up in Tyler, I think I can see why he loved West Texas. He was a really great story teller and almost every one of his stories were of things that happened to him in West Texas.

I loved those pictures. I liked your opening one with the bare foot and the canned energy That's so exactly how I road trip too

My husband was going to strangle me when he saw the photos, lets just say that I am lucky that I never got pulled over, I was driving like an idiot. The lense I had on the camera at the time was big and heavy, not ideal for shooting at 80MPH on the road, ha!

All my family is in Texas for the most part, Breckenridge, Sweetwater, Big Springs, Colorado City, Whitney....

What will your husband be doing? Will you have kids attending the school there? I am not sure if you will be looking for a job there, thogh for once I won't be working but going to school full time, I didn't see to much available, however, I wasn't looking much.

Glad you like the pictures!

Thanks so much for sharing these!! I love this area, and gave it very serious consideration when I relocated from Midland (which is where you will probably be driving for any major medical and other big ticket stuff).....it really is a special area, and if I ever come back to TX, Alpine is probably where I will end up.

Enjoy your stay!

I have more photos I need to post, I am just taking my sweet time in doing so. I thought that New Mexico had the best sunsets/sunrises ever...Marathon has some that rival! I am just glad it is not flat, coming from an area that has mountains and such, I like to know what direction I am driving in, ha!!

The photos were great! Please post more soon. We have another year here in humid New England before we can head to the Alpine area. On our trips there we have found the people very friendly and helpful. Hope you enjoy your stay there. We're jealous!!
