Hi Ya'll:
I just discovered this forum today. I have been working with c-d since Jan. 3 this year and have posted on Houston, Austin, San Antonio and St. Louis. I just realized today that there was a statewide forum. If you go to San Antonio, you'll see me all over the place and almost the same in Houston. I am 65, widower, loss my wife almost 2 years ago. We lived on the Illinois side of St. Louis metro.

I was born in San Antonio, went to UT Austin, was there when Charles Whitman took pot shots at us. There was a person about 200 feet from me that got hit but he was lucky. Just a flesh wound. I started the UT SCUBA Club in 1964 which is still going, 44 years later. I grad from UT in business in 1968 and moved to Houston. I lived there until 1976 and moved back to San Antonio in 1976 and became the local historian of San Antonio Theatres, Saloons of San Antonio and the Red Light district of San Antonio.

Back in the 70's I traveled around the state for 2 years and took pictures of most counties in Texas. I covered about 220 of the 254 counties. 10,000 b/w pics and 1,000 color pics at SMU now.

I broke up with my high school girl friend in 1963 and after 45 years we are getting back together. Nice!

I live in the Seguin area and write mostly in the San Antonio Forum. A young lady from Spain is coming to San Antonio next week (Romy). I thought it would be a good idea to throw a party for her and show her Texas hospitality. I have already invited the Houston forum, Austin forum and the San Antonio forum. I would have included this forum if I realized it existed. My blinders didn't allow me to go below San Antonio.

Here are the particulars. No reservation needed for the Grissmill, under the water tower in Gruene, TX. Come on in at 5:30 pm on the 18th of April, on a Friday evening. This date was chosen by Romy, our guest. Around 7:00, those that want to can go next door to the Gruene Hall for a dance that starts at 8:00 pm. Doors open at 7:00. We thought we would go early to get an outdoor table. The concert cost $20.00 each and yes you can bring children. There are no discounts for children.

A very pretty place:

Any way that's enough from me now, you know the details and I hope to see some of you there. Thanks southesttexas for the previous post.

Thank you for the advice, it will most certainly be heeded if the need to sedate her arises.

Thank you also for the home welcoming, it has been many years in the making and I can't wait!

I'm a 55-year-old widow and a 7th generation Texan on my mom's side of the family and my dad's family goes so far back in Texas that we couldn't track it back to the original settlers. My mom's family settled Poolville and Peaster, which is about 15 miles from Weatherford. I was born in Fort Worth, but since my dad was a cropduster, grew up all over the state. I graduated from Gregory-Portland High School, married in Corpus, moved to Houston in '76 and worked for both a major oil company and law firm for years until I moved to Santa Fe, NM. After that, I moved to Denver where I met and married my past husband. I knew I wasn't in Texas anymore when I saw my first Union soldier statue in downtown Denver. I called my husband a Yankee, too, and I don't think he was amused I returned to Texas in 1999 after my husband passed away and have been having a hard time ever since trying to put down roots. All of my family in the Weatherford, Fort Worth area are gone now. My son lives in Austin and my dad lives with me in Kerrville. I love this forum and really enjoy reading the writings of all the great folks here.

I'm not a true regular on here, but hope to start. Most of my posts are regarding San Angelo, which is where I live now. I'm 43, married (for the 3rd time) and have 4 children (one adopted, 2 that are mine, and 1 stepdaughter). I was orginally born in San Francisco, and lived in the bay area until I joined the Navy at 17. I was in the Navy for almost 21 years (20 years 8 mos). While in, I lived in Kings Bay, GA; Norfolk, VA; Rota, Spain; Yokosuka, Japan; Subic Bay, Philippines; Ewa Beach and Aiea, Hawaii; San Angelo, Tx (of course); and Gaeta, Italy. I'm a contractor on an Air Force base now. Not sure if this is where I want to be forever, but that's just because of the lack of moisture in the weather. If you could pick up San Angelo and move it north to where it rains and snows regularly, then I'd be set. Not sure I want to give up the friendly, clean, safe atmosphere of San Angelo for a little snow I can visit. I would love to, eventually, write a fantasy novel (or series). But... it's only a dream for now. 43 years old and my focus is on my degree (finally) for which I'm only 4 classes from.

Hope to get to know you all better as time goes on, but I normally only post on things I can really speak to (military questions and San Angelo). But I have seen most of your replies in the threads!!

I haven't stayed with them before, but I know where the house/property is!

So far as the Real Estate link goes, I peruse her site quite often as, being about 10 years away from retirement, I am constantly looking for some property out that way!
Hey, we rode through Uncertain.

and then canoed on Caddo Lake:

Yep, I know that sign well! LOL

And GREAT canoing picture! Is it any wonder why some folks (like me) just absolutely "hooked" on that lake?

Great story! Loved it! And...and these things often do on weekends, gives me an idee for a new thread. Gimme just a bit to think of how to open 'er up...
