Dude - I almost passed out coming from Austin to El Paso. That was a torture ride, even going 80mph on I-10!!....... and your talking across Texas. We'll yea, it can be done for sure!! Depends how bad ya want to do it!

The problem w/ Texas is that the scenery is very, very boring. I have to keep up with my Mountain-Dew, gummie bears and AC blowing at my face.

Default Taking My Time And Not Missing Anything

Guys, I'd much rather divide it up if I were to do a trip from Louisiana to New Mexico. One day to Houston, but then I'd want to spend a few days there (besides, there's Goode Company BBQ and I can't pass that up!). Then a couple of hours to San Antonio, but then I'd want to spend a few days there. Then I would stop in Kerrville, because I wouldn't want to rush through the Hill Country. Then on to Fort Stockton, but I'd want to explore the nearby areas. Point being, there are just too many stopovers along the way.

And then, I can make my way to El Paso and Las Cruces. Let's see, that would take about, oh......

......about a week and a half!

My son has to drive to Pecos or Monahans frequently from the metroplex. He said it's the most ugly and boring drive ever. He hates it. Of course, that is not a day's drive but to him, "It's bad enough."

Agreed. Driving across Texas is a special kind of hell.

There is also the possibility you'll die of boredom, if the blood clot doesn't get you first.

I tried something to prove how much gas you can save going 55MPH vs 75-80MPH. This was my 7th drive to CC from Minneapolis, MN and I have always driven at 70-80MPH almost the entire distance. This trip I drive 55MPH the entire way. I saved 2 tanks of gas (25 gallons at an average price of 3.40 per gallon). Usually fill the tank 7 times, this trip filled it 5 times. The killer was it took approximately 2 1/2 hours longer driving 55MPH. The worst part of the trip is the Kansas Turnpike and driving thru Oklahoma. From Minneapolis to CC the half way point is Oklahoma City and the portion from Minneapolis to OKC is worse than from OKC to CC. I have to make the drive back to Minneapolis in 2 weeks and then drive down for the last time sometime late summer. Guess I won't be looking forward to annual holiday drives to Minnesota after the past year of making that trip 7 times.

By the way, in lieu of our talk about Orange to Anthony, can you also imagine driving from Brownsville to Dalhart? And can you imagine doing that in one day?

I believe that would be about 800 miles depending on which way you go.

YES it is possible, even with rush hour traffic in major metros. However, nobody would recommend doing that in a day...
