The two words (mild and Texas) do not go together. I've heard that South of San Antonio has good soil. If you want to grow crops be sure you have drip irrigation. Drought is one of the biggest problems in Texas. Almond trees will grow in San Antonio and fertilize peach trees. Pecan trees grow all over the plave. Just realize that pecan grow on tree limbs that are two years old.

Thumbs up Look at San Angelo

San Angelo has great schools, a Texas Tech University, three lakes, a beautiful river that winds through town, numerous parks and playgrounds, an Art Museum and abundant cultural events. VERY VERY FAMILY oriented town with a county population of about 100,000. Also check out Christoval which is only 20 minutes from San Angelo with affordable living on land. Here are some links to get you started.
