Case, it's the Round Top Cafe. I haven't been yet, but a friend of mine from church (and her husband) go there more than several times a year. She says it's fantastic and couldn't recommend it enough. She says they've gotten to know the owners pretty well by now

Czech Stop in West is where people travelling I-35 love to stop. It's ok and has good bread.
Pass up Czech Stop and take a right at the corner. Two blocks up on the right on the main road is the Old Czech Smokehouse. They are the BEST and it's where the locals go.
It bothers me that people think the "Kolache" shops and Factories around Houston are authentic. Not even close!

Czech Stop in West for Kolaches is a MUST!!!!!!!!
Sweet Temptations - ST Cafe in Dallas is YUMMY!!! Cakes and pies and cookies and petit fours. I'm gaining weight just THINKING about this stuff. Their Rock Cake is a legend in Dallas.
The problem w/ the poll is you can only pick one. There is no way I can pick just one favorite.

They have Celebrity all over the place now, momof2. I spotted one in Frisco and they also have one in Flower Mound. It's not bad. And you picked a good location to go to when you went to The Harbor.

Well, there are other places in the Houston area that offer other things, but West and Ennis do have the authentic Czech places. So let's all go and Czech it out!!
Speaking of Houston, you folks down there -- we haven't heard from y'all yet??? Where ya been?? We'd like to know what your favorite bakeries and baked items are from down there. Come one, come all.
Also, East Texas and the El Paso areas, let's hear from you also.

Hey case and momof2, there's a Celebrity bakery in Lincoln Square in Arlington but I've never been in it. Always wondered about it, though. I should check it out.

I tried the Slaton Bakery once, is okay, not great. Just my opinion though. Would be interested to try the Frisco Bakery in Plainview. Plainview about 45 min from Lubbock.

I can not drive past West without stopping to get Kolaches. I'm weird though, I prefer the ones next door (Kaskas? I'm drawing a blank, but I think it begins with a K) to Chech Stop. They're usually less crowded, and I think their Kolaches are yummier.
In Dallas I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cindy's restaurant and Bakery on Central and Royal (they're a chain, but that one has the biggest bakery of the ones I've been to). I grew up in the North East, and this is as good as any deli from back there. And it's the only place I've found in the area where you can get a good poppy seed hammentashen year round. Their bagels are the best too.

I don't know how my husband and I always get the timing wrong... but the last few times we have driven through West, the smokehouse has been closed (one time we got there not even 20 minutes after close time). I think this is where my family used to always stop on road trips, so I wanted my husband to try it. Each time we have ended up having to go to Czech Stop or the one right by it instead.
