Weslaco memories
Anybody out there from Weslaco? Care to share some memories? Like these:
when the "new" high school (between 6th & 7th Sts. on Iowa, now Central Middle) didn't have a cafeteria and we had an hour for lunch -- some of us went downtown to eat at Harrington's lunch counter or the drugstore...
holding a pep rally at the intersection of 6th and Texas -- in the middle of the intersection! The city closed the streets for it..
the Panther's Den
the lady who sold sandwiches on 6th street out her back door at lunch time
the Weslaco Birthday Parade (do they still do that?)
Miss Black, the scariest, most demanding, most wonderful English teacher I've ever had -- and on the last day of school one year she sat on the floor with some of us and played jacks...
the senior prom that Mrs. Lehman designed for the class of '62 -- East of the Sun, West of the Moon -- and that interminable mosaic we created...
My Place and the Bronco...
putting two cars facing on the levee near Mercedes, turning on the lights and radio, and dancing on the levee...
anybody else?
