Default Semi-retired in Texas

I am researching Texas as a retirement area for a younger retiree. I am retired but I work part time, and would want to continue should I retire to Texas. I am looking for a metro area. I am looking for an area that is not overly conservative but definitely not the radicalism of where I live now Portland, Oregon. I like outdoors, and want there to be areas to walk, and or ride bikes, I know Austin is probably a good choice, but I am wondering if its not Portland south. Meaning is it more for the younger set, and I would not have many social outlets for those over 50. I also wonder if living in a place like Austin would mean limited part time work for my age group with such a large pool of younger people even for menial type jobs. I posted this sometime back on the Austin forum and I did not even get one response. That to me was a red warning flag that it is a very young population there, and anyone my age should live in Georgetown. I am 58 not old but definitely not still in my 20's, so where I retire to I have to consider the population base. Thanks.

South of Austin would be a better choice. The city of Austin is young...however between there and San Antonio there are a lot of retired folk in that area. I think it would be good to take a look. We live in East Texas and we like it. ....maybe a little too conservative for you....I don't know. It's almost a little to conservative for us....and we are pretty conservative! Hehe!
