Cool Is The E TX Oil Museum in Kilgore Worth It??

Hi-
I'm thinking of going to The E TX Oil Museum in Kilgore (never been there or Kilgore) Sat 5/10 when I'll also be going to Crockett to see a friend & he & I will be going to Nacogdoches for Butcher Boys Hamburgers (never been there or Nac either) & Ray's Drive-In Cafe for a hamburger in Lufkin.

I've been to none of these places but Crockett and that was
only once (7.2.05).

Is The E TX Oil Museum in Kilgore Worth It??

Thanks,
fallguy

Yes, you need to go. But you may want to check the hours first.

I concur with the above posters. The oil museum is very interesting, and worth a visit.

BUT, if you like to fish or are interested in the outdoors, the Texas Freshwater Fisheries center near Athens is very, very cool and it's a short drive from Crockett.

I have been there many times, it is one of the best oil & gas museums that I have seen. I've been to the ones in Midland-Odessa and Beaumont and the one in Kilgore is better. Schedule about a 1-2 hours for your visit so you don't rush.

If you have some extra time, go to New London, TX, it is about 1/2 hrs from Kilgore. They have a museum about the terrible explosion that occured in 1937 at the New London School. It killed about 300 kids and teachers. This occurred during the oil boom in the East Texas Field.

They have a fantastic replica of a small town the way it used to be. Fantastic reminiscing.
