Default Texas Diners

Following in the foot steps of Case44, I am asking my fellow brothers and sisters from Texas where your favorite diners are in this great state we call home.

I'll start with a few of my favorites:
- Bakehouse on Manchaca Road @ Stassney in South Austin
- Elite Diner on Circle Drive in Waco
- Magnolia Cafe on South Congress in Austin
- Kirby Lane Cafe on South Lamar in Austin
- Doll House Cafe in Cuero, although I think it may have closed a few years ago.

Chain restaurants are fine, but I prefer the non-chain. Just some scattered places I have been in the last few years. In no order;

Mary's Cafe - Strawn
LaBodega - Midland
Her's Restaurant - Rochester
Noreta's - Santa Anna
McBride's Steakhouse - Wichita Falls
Branding Iron BBQ - Wichita Falls
Sirloin 66 - Anson
Carmen's - Dallas
Luigi's - Midland
Dixie Pig - Abilene
Harold's BBQ - Abilene
Poor Richard's - Plano

Mighty's on Hwy 287 in Claude has got great hamburgers and limeades....it's a little locally- owned hole- in -the -wall, about 5 tables. Now that's a "diner" to me....something like Cafe Brazil (which is wonderful, of course) is IMO not a diner...it's an expensive franchise ($60 bucks a head?) restaurant.

Destin.......glad to know about Petty's - we are thru there pretty often.

You and I must have run into each other at some point! I have eaten in Mary's, LaBodega, Noreta's, Sirloin 66, Dixie Pig, and Harold's. They are my favorites. Add to the list the Coney Island in Pampa, and you have most of my favorites. Mary's and the Coney have to be number 1 and number 2 with Dixie Pig at number 3.

I used to frequent the Cafe 290 in Manor, Tx. I have been hearing some unpleasant stuff about some of their help lately that precludes my continued visits (school girls with bad attitudes and not above sabotaging food of other kids, so you never know what will tick them off), but nothing bad about the food yet.
