I know that Progreso used to be a hotspot. Any of them safe to go to?

Progreso is still good to go, the best in fact.

You could honestly go to most places near the bridges, during the day, and you´re golden. I mean Matamoros is pretty ok, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo less so...Juarez is a huge city, and while it sometimes gets bad press, just know where you´re going, cross over and stay within a certain radius. Right near the bridge near Kentucky Bar and all that there are plenty of good dentists and other services available.

If you´re really worried still, go straight to Progreso and safety won´t even be an afterthought as you go to your appointments and do your shopping.

My FIL uses a dentist in Acuña. He seems to like the dentist. I’ve heard from friends in the dental profession here in the USA that Mexican dentists don’t have good infection control. But I can’t personally verify this.

If you’re in Houston, it’s probably not worth your time to travel all the way to Mexico and back just for dental work. Unless you’re going to have some major expensive work done.

Right now the borders are closed but yes, Progreso is the best spot. You cross on foot, visit the dentist, buy liquor, medications and souvenirs and cross right back. I would NOT recommend Reynosa or Matamoros for obvious reasons. There are easily 50 dentists in an area of a few blocks. Good quality, much better price than the US. In fact, many use labs in the US to manufacture crowns and bridges. Most if not all speak English and yes they practice good hygiene. Just as good as the US in my experience. Of course it matters which dentist, some may not be as good.

The Dallas Morning News ran a story about a young woman who died working the cheap Mexican plastic surgery angle . No thanks to any of that dental work included.
