One mile west of the park on hwy 90 is the high bridge over the Pecos river. Stop at the scenic overlook and rest area there.
Further west is Langtry. Not the most scenic place, but if you're into history and Judge Roy Bean, it's pretty cool.
By far the best scenery is Big Bend National Park and the areas surrounding it. Hwy 170 from Terlingua to Presidio is a must. Be sure you have good brakes.
In Terlingua, stop and eat at the Starlight Theatre. They open at 6 pm. Get there early.
Drive thru the Davis Mountains on hwy 166 and 118...makes a loop back to Fort Davis. Stop at the McDonald Observatory on the way.
Stop at the Marfa Lights viewing area, 9 miles East of Marfa on hwy 90 around dark til dawn. Pretty neat.
The stars at night can't be beat.

this is great info. id def recommend this. didnt know much about seminole canyon state park until now so thanks. must plan a trip soon.

Too late now, but check into bird watching opportunities for next year.

There's very little. There is one very small campground, but it takes an act of God to reserve a spot.
FM 163 follows it for a few miles, but don't you dare stop anywhere along the way or even slow down. The ranchers out there keep a sharp eye out for people trespassing. They have a problem with artifact hunters that dig in the hundreds of caves along the river. The last time I drove down that road, there were three ranchers shooting the breeze at one of their gates. They gave me the meanest, dirtiest looks.

Will be going to Big Bend and I have only heard good things about it. Has anyone been to Presidio/Ojinaga - as we may pass by there on the trip back to El Paso.

Spent week of 11-15 April 2021 in Big Bend backcountry. Cactus and Yucca flowers just popping out.

This accessible route was spectacular... Git yourself out there real soon. (Dagger Flats)

Very nice roadside wildflowers near Fossil Exhibit. Beware that wildfire has closed the lodge and nearby camping.

I reluctantly stayed at Rio Grande village campground. Great sunrise and sunset hikes. Watch the paths, I ran into a very disturbed rattlesnake on the path after dusk. (Rare time of day to meet up with one). He remembered quite well how to coil and strike, after his winter hibernation.

I really liked Presidio route ~10 yrs ago. Be gassed up before you head out, I was forced to return for fuel.

Sure Ive been there. Love Lajitas, Big Bend, Cibolo Creek Ranch, Terlingua and even Presidio was a nice meat clean border town that use to get covered on national news as warmest spot in the nation many times.

Did you have a question?
