I really don't know what to tell you about where you'll find that. It isn't where I live. We have a lot of Mexicans in my county but not so many in my town. I believe most of them speak English.

I'm wanting to move to VA and I have so much criteria on my plate as to what I want and don't want that I've spent over a year looking for a place to visit where I think I'd like to be. I started with five states, VA, KY, WV, TN, and NC but have narrowed it down to southwestern VA. I plan to visit in June.

The internet is full of information that might help you narrow your search. It has helped me and so has this forum.

Hopefully, you'll get some more responses soon about places that will fit your criteria.

No, I live in Central Texas about 45 miles north of Waco. I'm originally from Burbank, CA.

The main reason I want to move is because of the long and unbearable summers although there are other reasons as well. The fact that I'm crazy about mountains is why I've chosen the area I have if I do, in fact, leave TX. The summers and winters are relatively mild up there but keep in mind I've never been there, but I haven't a doubt I'll fall in love with the area. Many people I've talked to said it's just lovely and if they could, they'd leave TX in a heartbeat.

My main reason for maybe not making the move is my children. Albeit they're grown, I would have a hard time leaving them. They are set in their careers and I've tried to persuade them to check it out with me, but they both said they're staying put.

It's a dream I have that might never become a reality, but I'm still going to "keep on dreaming" until I know positively what road I'll take.

Default Living in East Texas

If I were you Blondie1, I would stay out of N. East Texas. There is one County in Particular, and that is Red River County. If I were going to move again, and I am a born and bred texan who has lived here all my life, it would be to Rusk. That is a pretty, small town nesteled in the Piney woods. The last time I was there, it was not only very clean, but friendly. You might want to check it out. I have lived in Garland...28 years, Lubbock...20 years, and now Red River County....5 years. Check out Rusk, Texas on their website at http://www.ci.rusk.tx.us/. It is a nice place.

I loved Marathon, TX in Brewster County - If you want city services, though, consider Alpine in Brewster County.

I went to the Big Bend Area for Spring Break twice.

small towns in texas thats not overrun with illegals, crime or drugs
ICE just raided the Swift plant north of Dumas in Catus Texas and rounded up the illegals...so that might be a place with a few less illegals...Nice town , around 10,000...cold in the winter and hot in the summer....I suggest you check the state sex offenders web site before you move anywhere...just google "state of texas" and you can find it in the states web site....Dumas is my home town...but I haven't lived there for years.....

notmeofficer has a spectacular aura aboutnotmeofficer has a spectacular aura aboutnotmeofficer has a spectacular aura aboutnotmeofficer has a spectacular aura about
Since we are passing each other in different directions in the US I thought Id throw in a couple of comments..
I started out as a Maryland State Trooper before fleeing the cold weather of maryland and coming to Los Angeles for LASD.....
I spent many hours in Virginia... riding thru the back country on my motorcycle..
Virginia.. is beautiful,, but it is butt ugly cold there in the winter.. even by the ocean,, and it is expensive in most places (driven by it's proximity to DC and for gods sake who would EVER want to live in DC) .. or at least the places that have any services whatsoever.. I havent googled land prices there but I suspect today they are pretty spendy
Theres also an attitude in Virginia the people have.. cant really put my finger on it.. something to do with being south of the mason dixon line... and so closely connected to Washington DC government,,,

I could never go back east.. and even with my muses of how Kalifornia has gotten so bad I still like the west,, for me I still consider Texas the west...
Men can act like men and be respectful of women but still enjoy male oriented pursuits without fear of some liberal bay area social justice reject.

Why does everyone keep pushing Alpine? I have been there... its not the sacred land.

You want a good small town, try Temple, or Killeen, yeah you have to deal with CAV soldiers, but they are not all bad. =) Your smack dap between 3 major cities, so you have your small town, with your big citys near by for your weekend trips. And if you have any militray benefits like medical, VA what ever Foot Hood can support your needs.
