Golden Real Estate & Construction in Corpus is a custom home builder and did a fantastic job on our custom built home that we have been in since Jan 2, 2008. Follow-up visits by the builder on a monthly basis (last visit was last Thursday) to make sure we are satisfied and have no problems is great. The builder has built 3 more custom built homes in our neighborhood and the workmanship and quality is marvelous. All 4 homes in the $339,000-359,000 price range (lot costs approx. $55,000).
In our development, there are 5 other custom builders and the quality is not as good as Golden Construction and the prices are in the $299,000-325,000 price range and did not include underground sprinkler system, sod, or fences.
Square footage ranges from 2,700-3,200 sq ft. on all homes built so far.

KB is supposedly a low end builder.

One of my sons owns a KB house built 12 years ago near Round Rock, and he's had no major issues with it yet.

He has a diamond in the rough then. I have yet to hear from someone with a positive experience with KB. If they have an inspector handy not to slow them down, they have been known to complete a house in 5-7 days. You get what you pay for

The industry joke about KB is that they are building tomorrows ghettos today. Do your home work on KB because they have been sued and protested with the best of them.

We built with Gehan www.gehanhomes.com in 2009 and have been very pleased with the construction of the home. They ONLY build in Texas (Austin, DFW, Houston, SA) and are locally owned. While their customer service (at least in the Austin area) could use some tremendous improvement, the quality of the build has been great and we've had no serious problems. (I've posted many times about our experience...search for 'Gehan'). In some locations, they have lower priced homes (all dependent on area - same floorplans generally) but ours is right at $300,000 with good quality materials for what we had installed as standard. I would highly recommend them as long as you're willing to sometimes stand up for yourself and demand that what you want done be done.

We relocated to New Braunfels from NYC and used Anderson Jenkins Custom Builders (AJ Signatures). We built a 3400 square foot two story home and are quite pleased with the finished product. AJ builds about 20 houses a year and work with you to design your own floor plan. We met all their sub contractors (framers, electricians, masons, tile, & carpenters) to discuss what we wanted. We were also pleased with their vendors, especially their landscape designers (Armadillo Stone & Landscaping). One of the owners followed up with us on a 3 month warranty check & had the roofer come to address an issue he identified. Pretty much a painless experience !

CastleRock is bad, in many ways. Although I like Westin's designs, I've heard a LOT of bad things about them. KB is, well, KB.

What bad things specifically have you heard? We are looking into having a Westin home built in Summerwood.
