I agree.

I tried to talk him out of buying it, but he wanted the 2,500 sqft of cheap space after his divorce. I wouldn't ever buy one of their houses myself.

Son will be custom building a new home with a quality builder in 3 or 4 years.

We used a custom builder in semi-rural Texas, and what a comedy of errors!

Favorite incident: the day the undermounted kitchen sink fell down

All in all a beautiful home, but where is integrity these days?

Good - Trendmaker, Highland.

Bad - Plantation, Pulte.

KB is actually good for the price point. They are a low-end builder, but the final product is going to be as good or better than other low-end builders.

For the unknowing:
In Texas any licensed trade; Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, all are held to ethical standards by the TSBPE or TDLR.
All one has to do is file a formal complaint against the licensed tradesman or company that uses the licensed tradesman license and all hell will break loose if they have done anything illegal or unethical. Fines start at $5000 or so and they can lose their license.
Don't feel bad about doing it either. It's the law.

I'm a retired Master Plumber, HVAC Contractor and Electrical Contractor now retired for @ 9 years after 35 successful years in business and NEVER A RED TAG IN 35 YEARS. I was also the youngest home builder in Texas during the late 70's so I've been around a while.
You have more power than you might believe with builders and sub-contractors.

Yes.... and I don't know that it's so much the quality of the construction, but more the cheap, low-end aspect that often means people with foreclosures, then resulting rental neighborhoods that go downhill. Be very cafeful buying in or next to a development that has them.
