Happy 5th to those who celebrate it, which is usually US citizens!

Just FYI... I am a dual citizen of Mexico and the US. I can tell you that for whatever reason, Cinco de Mayo has really become an American (US) tradition to celebrate. However, almost no one in the interior of Mexico celebrates it as the US does. It is recognized for sure, but not celebrated the same way.

If you took any battle the US had, and celebrated that, it would be the equivalent. The day of independence in Mexico is September 16th. I mention that because there are usually a lot of people that think May 5th is that day.

I should get my in-laws to celebrate it. They aren’t Mexican (Salvadoran with a splash of Honduran for good measure), but like most folks from a lot of spots south of our border they love an excuse to cook too much food, drink, and dance into the wee hours of the night.
