California became what it is by elements present, lots of these elements can be found in Texas, it is development. Not people saying 'I want my neighborhood to be like California!' So it'll be Texas Style California, no Hollywood... only western movies... no Silicon Valley, only a Silicon Prairie. The culture is already here and embedded. I honestly think its inevitable which is good.. and bad... I can't imagine Texas being a total Blue state...

YOU'RE MAKING A GOOD POINT. I THINK TX AS MUCH CHANGE AS IT MAY GO THROUGH, WILL ALWAYS BE TX. CA WAS HAS ALWAYS HAD THE SAME KINDA OF ATTITUDE AND FEELING ABOUT. SAME AS DALLAS, HOUSTIN AND AUSTIN IN THE PAST 20 YEARS OR SO. LITTLE HAS REALLY CHANGED, IT ONLY BECOMES MORE AMPLIFIED W/ MORE POPULATION. I DON'T TX WILL EVER BE BLUE EITHER, THANK GOODNESS THERE IS STILL A LARGE STATE THAT GOES RED. WHAT MAKES EACH PLACE DIFFERENT IS HOW IT IS UNIQUE. EVEN OKLAHOMA, NEW MEXICO, KANSAS, SURE THEY MAY NOT BE THE BRIGHTEST STATE IN THE COUNTRY, BUT IF IT'S HOW YOU LIKE THINGS, ROLAND REAGEN PUT IT BEST WHEN HE WAS GOVERNOR OF CA... PEOPLE CAN ALWAYS VOTE W/ THEIR FEET AND THAT'S LEAVING YOUR STATE IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT

Question: do you really mean to shout everything you say? All caps, as someone explained, is for emphasis. If everything you say is in all caps, it doesn't emphasize anything and it's hard to read.
If you WANT to shout at us, then never mind!

lived in houston via long island back in 1993.good mexican food, houses were really inexpensive.bought a home in the park place subdivision for 75 thousand, right across from a golf course, and on my street there were a lot of people from the east coast.anyway i stayed 10 months, could not take the high humidity.i think that time period had a lot of people coming and going in this state.

I simply have to chime in on this thread...with my first post.
I've been in San Diego for 35 years -- Rancho Bernardo for 32 of them, Poway the other three -- and I'm strongly leaning towards moving (back) to TX. I'd lived in Texas (El Lago) from 1966-1969 and spent another 12-13 years on Long Island. Quite simply, California is nuts...my political leanings swaying right.
Please tell me that Texas -- Houston in specific -- is not a burgeoning third-world nation like Cali will soon be. Please tell me that Texans are not narcissists. Please tell me that voter's wishes outweigh the decisions of an activist judiciary. Please tell me that in Texas, the word "gun," is not synonymous with criminal intent. Quite simply, please tell me that Texans have common sense!
My goal is to retire in TX and from what I've seen, I think I can do that comfortably. I'm attracted to affordable housing, warm weather, an infrastructure that will support my business (PC repair), friendly folks, and just a general relaxed atmosphere. Right now, Montgomery County (and Sugar Land) is/are at the top of my list. Any thoughts and suggestions by the locals are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. Don't let Texas get like Cali. It will send the Lone Star State into a flat spin.

Houston and Dallas are both becoming increasingly liberal, I would find somewhere quite in the Hill Country...

Yes, CA is nuts! However SD and OC are still fairly conservative for large cities. However we have the 2 biggest left leaning cities in the country, LA and SF. Surprisingly though SD/OC are tried to stay away from their bad influences.
Is politics your main reason why though?

3rd world nation? CA??? Aren't we already there?

So true! I think what makes each place unique is that they are so different. Don't let Houston/Dallas get like LA - pluh! Let them be to their own. The demographics are so different, however ever changing w/ TX as well. Our cultures vary so much and that's why people love them for their differences.
