Ironically, the snow of Dec. 2004 was heaviest on the BEACH. I have friends who lived on the coast at that time who have pictures of their cars with at least a foot of snow piled on top. It did indeed "stick" for several days before melting off.

I think it was 2005 (or 4) woke up February 14 to a beautiful heavy wet snow, everything was covered. I was near downtown Dallas. It snowed until about noon. One of the best snows I've seen in Texas.
It was mostly gone by nightfall. Awesome.

it snows more in dallas than lubbock sometimes i think its due to the moisture in the air ... amarillo is almost like the north pole in the winter they average about 3 to 4 snowstorms a year lubbock only has seen a 2" snow once a year for the past few... I lived in amarillo as a child maybe 1984 or 1985 and we had thunderstorms severe weather , blowing dirt and woke up to 14" of the white stuff the next day... I remember snow plowed mountains on I40 not melting away till early may....

Houston.
It snows on rare occasions. Most recently was in 2008, and before that i think in 2005, or was it 2004?

The further South you go, the less the chance. It COULD snow anywhere in Texas any given winter, it just usually doesn't. And we do get sleet and freezing rain, but nothing you could really call "ice storms" by Northern standards.
SA got a couple feet of snow that stayed for a FEW days in the 80s, the whole city shut down! I also remember some smaller snowfalls in the 70s.

I remember that storm. The Mayor was on the radio and TV begging people not to go anywhere.
Later, the city actually bought a snow plow to keep the roads open to the airport, just in case it ever does it again.

Do they use salt to clear the roads when ice does happen to form?
