I hope everyone had a restful Labor Day. Sunday around noon, I was headed for El Paso, when I noticed a late model red pick-up back by the damaged Gazebo, with two men loading the damaged pieces into it.
I thought, "perhaps Jerry has one of his employees reading this site, good, now the Gazebo will have something done to it."
On my way back from El Paso Sunday night, I couldn't help but notice that ALL the lights in "Wallace Town" were on, even the parking lot lights.
I figured that perhaps he was going to have a "shindig" on Labor Day, but I didn't notice anything there at all.
Who knows, perhaps he is going to sell the place to someone, and they wanted to see if the power worked out there, only time will tell.
Some here may think that I wish Jerry ill, nothing could be further from the truth. I hope that the place turns out to be the biggest thing to ever hit West Texas, and soon enough for me to be young enough to enjoy it.
The value of my property will go straight through the ceiling, I can go buy a 50 foot sailboat, and retire in the South Pacific. Brie

Last week, my friend who did the grading, and some of the night security work for Jerry Wallace told me that he was contacted by someone that told him that he needed the area around Wallacetown that had become overgrown with weeds "Buschhogged" to mow the weeds down.
Two days later, I saw my friend, (I'm not sure he wants his name known on the net, though everyone out here knows who I'm talking about, so I won't name him here), on his tractor, cutting the weeds down.
Later that day, he told me that Jerry Wallace either sold, or leased wallacetown to someone else.
THIS IS NOT ESTABLISHED FACT, ONLY WHAT MY FRIEND TOLD ME HE WAS LED TO BELIEVE BY THE PERSON WHO CONTRACTED HIM TO DO THE WORK ON THE PHONE.
NOW let's see if he gets PAID for the work that he did. Brie

Brie, I'm coming in here way late so you may not even see this.

I've always been intrigued with people like you who choose a more self-reliant path. If I never saw another Starbucks, it wouldn't be soon enough. By choice I haven't been to a movie in so long I can't remember the last time, and I eat out about twice a month. So there is much I wouldn't miss at all. But how do you work it with grocery shopping ~60 mi. away? It's probably too dry for growing much out there. Do you just make an occasional trip and stock up or is there some means of local delivery?

I grew up in a rural town with not much there. But I was only 30 min. away from a larger place. In adulthood, I've lived in cities. I think I'm so brainwashed now I don't know if there is any hope for me. But I sure would like to give it a try.

The biggest motivator for my mindset was a combinatiion of three things.
First, I was born about ten miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The first thing that I smelled that was not a Hospital smell, was salt air. THAT is why I can be a thousand miles offshore, by myself in a sailboat, and NOT be nervous. There are two places where I am completely at home, and at ease, no matter what. The sky,( I'm a pilot), and the sea.
Second, I spent much of my early teen years in the woods of Virginia, and at age 13, I would disappear into the woods with a .22 rifle, and a fishing rod for a week at a time in the summer, and not have lost any weight when I came back.
Third, for many years I went where the Army told me to go, did what the Army told me to do, and thought what the Army told me to think while I did what the Army told me to do. When I got out, NO ONE was going to have that kind of control over me EVER AGAIN.
As far as my supples, twice a month, I go to Ft. Bliss, and go shopping. My power is solar and wind, I, and a friend of mine are building our house by ourselves, and I maintain all our mechanical equipment myself, I have been twisting wrenches since I was 18.
You will NEVER know what you are capable of till you try it. As for my posts on this thread, I will be here giving updates till I die, or buy that sailboat and sail off into the South Pacfic, I live about six miles east of Wallacetown, so if it starts happining there, I'll know about it in short order, and so will all of you. Thanks for your response. That all makes sense. Good luck with the houses. UT's architecture dept. will be showing their competition house to the public on Mon. evening. It is the one they will enter this year in a competition in Washington DC that showcases solar and alternate energy. I plan to be there. Their prototype cost $400,000 and looks like a fancy mobile home.

How about water. Do you have well water or do you have to haul it?

I have Mountain View water deliver me El Paso City water. They bring 2,200
gallons to my place and transfer it to my 3,000 gallon tank for $130.00.
I don't have drill or maintain a well, I get the water that El Paso is now drawing from Dell City's aquifer via the new de-salination plant that Dell City did not want placed in Hudspeth County, losing the taxes that such an enterprise would have generated for the County's budget. Brie

Hi Brie,

It's been a while, but thanks for offer to see the land via plane... something different! What month does the weather get warmer? The last time we were out was in the month of November and it was like being in Jersey.

I spoke with someone from S.R. the other day and he said he read that someone brought Wallacetown and was planning on turning it into an amusement park. Have you heard anything about this?
Does Hudspeth have a local paper where they give updates on approvals, permits granted etc.?

It's great that you've eliminated the need to deal with the electric company. We've thought about the same thing regarding solar and wind power. The more independent you can be the better.

We're considering selling one of our lots. If you know a trust worthy agent, that would help. If you've ever seen Blue Quail can you describe it ?

Good luck with your building projects. We admire people that take chances and ride a different path.

How does Hudspeth County generate tax based income? It doesn't seem as if there are any companies in the area creating a tax revenue. It also doesn't seem as if they want to entertain companies coming in. Are homeowners taxed heavily once the houses are completed?

I have owned land out there off of mayfield ranch road for about 3 years and make semi-yearly visits. I have been very happy over the past few years to find your comments on the web, because you inform me of what I'm missing while away in north ft. worth. I was also there for the Labor Day weekend and got caught up in the county mounty's license check at 62/180 and 1111. They say they do this regularly, but I have never been through it before, is this a change of plans due to Wallacejoke? I plan on moving out there before the end of the year even if I have to drive to Las Cruces for work.
