Amusement Park
Check out the on-line El Paso Times article from Sept. 8th regarding the purchase of Wallace Town and the proposed amusement park.
Brie, you might be able to sail to the South Pacific sooner than you think.

Let me open this with the following statement.
I LOVE living here. BUT I was ready for the isolation that living in such an area assures.
If you like being self-reliant, and don't need to be within six blocks, (more like 60 miles), of the local Starbucks, you won't mind living here.
If you don't mind the fact that ALL major food markets, home improvement stores, non-mexican resturants, theaters, etc., are at least 60 miles away,
you won't mind living here.
If you don't mind the fact that there is, at the present time only ONE phone company that serves the area, and ANY call that is not to the Dell City area IS long distance, and that internet service is PAINFULLY slow, ensuring sky high phone bills if you use dial up, and the fact that DSL is VERY limited out here, you won't mind living out here. (I'm typing this on my laptop which is tied to one of only two cell towers in the ENTIRE county of Hudspeth).
If you LOVE clean air you will LOVE IT OUT HERE.
If you like everyone waving to each other as they drive, you will LOVE it out here.
If you love being able to walk out at night and look up and see more stars than you have probably EVER seen before, you will LOVE it out here.
If you like the idea that you can live out here for years and NEVER hear a drive by shooting, you will LOVE it out here.
If you will like walking out your front door, and have several Pronghorn Antelope in your front lawn just looking at you till you do something to spook them, you will definitely LOVE it out here.
Living out here takes a VERY diferent mindset then is required in "the burbs". If you have it, you will love it out here, if not, cultivate it, or you will leave here inside of two years. Brie

Traffic checks on 62-180
Karaokehost,
The Sherrif has been running those checkpoints about six times a year ever since I came out here. Every time that he does it, he busts eight or ten people with drugs, arrests ten or twelve illegals, and writes tickets to quite a few people from Carlsbad who don't bother to have insurance. Brie

WOW, cool.. I wish him luck.. but he will fail too. El Pasoans wont travel all that way to got to a carnival style park. El Pasoans are a wierd lot. And with gas prices as they are, it will cost so much to get there and back. It would have to be an amazing place to get people to travel there. Now had this been on I10 Maybe but on 180/62 I wish him well but it is not gonna fly.

New Wallacetown Owner
Austin Traveller,
Thank you for giving us the hot link to the story, it will enable many of us to make informed decisions concerning living out here.
Muhnay,
It MAY work, for one reason. IF he can re-create the fantastic "Cornudas Burger", the old regulars will come back. EVERY week end, there were many motorcycles parked at the cafe. It was the official stop on the ride between El Paso, and Carlsbad. Also, most of the Wal Mart drivers would stop there to eat as well.
THAT would be the "draw", THEN if he put up a shooting range where S.A.S.S. clubs could have competitions, (I used to compete myself in Arizona), he could have more people show up.
I, for one, LOVE the fact that he wants to put in fishing ponds. Right now, I have to go to "Hidden Lakes" down by Tornillo to go fish, and that's 90 miles one way. If he puts in the lakes, there are a BUNCH of Dell Vally, and Salt Flats who will be able to go fishing again. Brie

The closest ER used to be about 90 miles away, but Sierra Providence is building a new hospital on the extreme Eastern end of El Paso, just off loop 375. It is about 50 miles away from my place, you ought to check it out, they probably need RNs badly. Brie

I understand you live out there and your rootin tootin for him to succeed. but I know El Paso and its people and they dont want to drive across town to do stuff let alone way out in the middle of no where.
Did you ever watch the Little Rasquels tv show, remember Froggy from the show, he used to have a place out there on that same stretch of highway, I used to hang out there with my aunt. He ( froggy ) was a cool guy.
I used to drive out to Waco Tanks and think that was too far out.. now this is even further and unless someone is traveling to or from Carlsbad NM or the caverns its not gonna fly. Sorry. I do wish him well and hope I am wrong.. but I dont think I am.
There is a Western town thing opening closer to El Paso on the same highway. it used to be out there with the best steak house in the area a long time ago, I heard its coming back.. I cant recall what its called but I will have to drive out there and see if its true. I remember going there as a kid though and thinking it was cool.. even had hitching post with horses back then.
I really think he needs more than a burger to draw in the masses, maybe if he can get NM to allow him to turn the land into a Casino then he may have something.
