Default Wishing for a Cornudas Burger

Muhnay,
I remember "Froggy", it's cool that you got to know him. This guy would have to get Texas to let him start a Casino, not likely at all.
There usually were people in May's Cafe most all the time. Most were on the way between El Paso and Carlsbad, true, but did you ever see the clear tablecloths with the notes written on napkins underneath them? ALL highly praised her "Cornudas Burger". They were from all over the states, Mexico, Canida, and even Europe. These were not eons old either, she had to take them out after they were two or three months old in order to make room for new ones.
Her patch collection was impressive too. I was a member of a National Match Rifle Team while in the Army, and she even had one of THOSE patches,
donated by a "guest" of her resturant, as were all the other patches, many from different countries. Brie

Yeah Froggy was a cool guy. I still have his autograph in a scrap book here some place.

Thats true.. now maybe if he could strike a deal with them Indians that had the Casino out there on the East side of town and claim that as there native lands.. who knows.. lol. Or he could try selling the land and buying some out in New Mexico.. I am sure he can get a Casino out there some place.. I know there is a debate now for a Casino in NM just outside NE El Paso... on US 54 to Alamogordo NM.

I was only out that way once on a trip to the caverns just before she sold out. Took some friends out there... all they kept saying is how does she live out here in no where.. how does she stay in business.. and stuff like that. They were from Seattle so it was expected. Never had the burger.. now wish I had... maybe he can contact her and get the recipe and bring it back to life.. if he does I may make the drive out there just to see what all the talk is about.

You have to remember though that She had a following, an established theme and culture to her place. She was known to truckers and others who had passed word on about her place. She had loyal customers and supporters. This guy doesn't.. not yet.. but I hope he can hang on and make something of it. And have the same cult following the old place did.

Default Cornudas Burger

Muhnay,
Glad you got to see her place. What I know about the burger is this. It was almost 3/4 of an inch thick, (somewhere between 1/2, and 3/4 of a pound), and I could taste a little bit of Cayenne pepper, and some onion powder in it, as well as what MIGHT have been Celery Salt.
It was served on a HUGE bun, with Ketsup, Mustard, Red Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, some home brewed sauce, and a big green Anaheim Chili Pepper, sliced in half lengthwise.
This was served with fries that that McDonalds WISHES they could make.

Tres Cruces Stable is on a distinguished road
Hello Austin Im new here and own 40 acres in wallace town . I was the first to buy here at $12,500 each 20 acre parcell . Please tell me in short what the article said . My lots were financed by the wallace co. they stoped cashing my checks and its a battle getting them to answer my questions . I guess no one wants to be accountable.

Default Reply to Tres Cruces Stable

There is an article with a hot link to the El Paso Times story that was made earlier. It has the name of the person who bought the land from Jerry Wallace, so you probably need to start paying him now. Brie

Default update on "May's Cafe"

The "new guy" is apparently less flash, but more bang than Wallace was. He said in the article that he was going to re-open the Rancho Escondido on the east end of El Paso, and he HAS.
He said that priority number two was to re-open "May's Cafe" in Cornudas, and I found out over at lunch at the Spanish Angels in Dell City about an hour ago that the new kitchen equipment had been delivered to the cafe.
(Come ooooonnn Cornudas burger ! ! ! ). By the way, most of us in the area never called the place Wallace town, and NEVER will. To US it has been, is, and will be, Cornudas, Texas. Brie

Default Cornudas Burger

Muhnay,
You're on. BOY, all the way from Gulfport, as a lightplane pilot, I pride myself in my desire to find the "$100.00 Burger", but MAN, you will leave that in the dust. Do you fly, or will you be driving in ?
I have a 3,500 X 90 foot strip, (08-26), that is about six miles east of Cornudas. Brie

Oh man I need to fix my profile.. it still reads Gulfport.. DOH! I'm back in El Paso now, out on the NE side of town. Came back to help an ill family member. He cant live on his own due to being on oxygen, and missing a leg.. so here I am.

If you want a $100.00 burger I know a couple places that sell them at that price.

Brie have you ever been to LAS CRUCES back when they had HENRY J's? That was the best burgers I have ever had.. the topping bar was awesome. They had 4 burgers. 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and the bid daddy a 1 pound burger, on a white or wheat bun with or with our seaseme seeds. Once you got your burger, you went to the topping bar ( lot like a salad bar ) and put on your burger what ever you wanted. Chili, cheese, tomato, onions, what ever they had it there. Its gone now.. not sure why.. but I may open a place like that here in El Paso some day.. man it was good.. I gained weight just thinking about it.

P.S. I guess I should of lived up to the myth of coming from Gulfport MS, heh heh.. that could of been entertaining. But I would rather be honest with you.

Default $100.00 Burgers

Muhnay
The burger was only 5 to 10 dollars, the Aviation fuel it took to GET to the burger cost 80 to 90 dollars. The journey WAS the destination, the burger was only the excuse to go on the journey.
I moved to the area permanently in November of 2003 from 70 miles west of Phoenix, so I never got to see the place you mentioned. Brie
