Try the Gar Hole, just outside of Gonzales, 20 miles west of Shiner.

I got wonderful friends/kin in Miss'ippi who, not long ago, told me about fried dill pickles! Welll, by golly, I am going to slam the ball back to the opposite side of the court by sending the video and say can y'all top THIS un'!

My favorite "Texas Joint" doesn't serve any of that food...it's a steakhouse. Well, it's more than a steakhouse. You don't get a more authentic Texas steak in a more authentic Texas country environment than what you get at Shorty's Place, between Falls City and Hobson on Highway 181.

By the way, if you manage to save room for dessert, the pie is some of the best around, too!

Also on the menu, if steak isn't your thing: Frog Legs (yum!), rabbit, chicken fried chicken, etc.

Manchaca Fire Hall on Friday night. Hot catfish and cold Lone Star. It's all you can eat (but not all you can drink).

Schultz's Garden is another joint.

I forgot to mention that on the walls is a huge rattlesnake skin and a painting of Judge Roy Bean's courthouse
