A Texas "Joint"
Greetings fellow Texans...natives, transplants and converts! And friends all!
GOT one for y'all! Here it is.
Lot of talk and opinions has been written about BBQ joints lately! GREAT ones! And JA and a few others have extended it to query as to what actually MAKES a barbeque place a barbeque place...?
But it occured to me to take the concept a bit further! The BIG THREE I can think of, TO be qualified, are Beer, Barbeque, and Catfish!
So what really DOES make a Texas JOINT a true JOINT? What gives it that informal yet very real compliment that qualifies it as a "joint"? in an affectionate and familiar sense?
A few common denominators of my own here:
1. Been around for quite a while, and off the beaten path.
2. The people who work in there know many of those who come in
3. It has the SMELL and AURA of what it serves...Beer, BBQ, or Catfish
4. Those who come in do on a semi-regular basis and are COMFORTABLE with it all...
Y'all...?

Rose Warda Burger in Warda just north of La Grange has every qualification in spades.
However, it is for sale and may soon loose those qualifications.
Rose isn't Rose without Rose.

I think one of the biggest things is.....the waitress has to be older than 21....and seasoned.

LOL Good one! And naturally, "hon" and "darlin" must be part of her vocabulary when addressing customers! And by the same token, not take offence when referred to likewise!

When I think of a BBQ joint, the last thing I think of is catfish.
