Probably one of my top movies of all time is "The Last Picture Show" followed by Lonesome Dove and number 3 would be Second hand Lions. (Any show with Robert Duvall).

Which TX movies rank in your top ?

Lonesome Dove. We were living in Del Rio when it was being filmed out in the country near the city.

Hmmmm....

I guess in terms of a sentimental favorite, The Alamo (John Wayne epic) would take top honors.

The Last Picture Show would definitely be one. Places In The Heart (Sally Fields and Danny Glover) is another.

Texasville was one I enjoyed. I remember when it came out, I had been living out of state for school and I just came home to Texas. An old friend and I went to see this movie.

I thought it was funny how everyone hung out at the Dairy Queen (like in the town I grew up in).

Texasville was part 2 of The Last Picture Show. If you liked it you should rent TLPS, it's 3 times better.

I agree with this totally. Although I think you are being overly generous in only calling it 3X better!

To be fair though, the book "Texasville" was, IMHO, the worst Larry McMurtry ever wrote, so I probably didn't give the movie a fair chance! LOL

On a related note here, I once read that he really didn't want to write the book to begin with. Of course, that source could have been wrong, but the gist of it was that, considering the popularity of both the original book and movie, (The Last Picture Show) a publishing company kept after him to write a sequel and offered a huge advance. Finally, he went ahead and did it, but his heart never really was in it. As he had said in interviews before, once he finished a book, it pretty well became a dead issue for him afterwards.

Soooo, essentially, it was a novel which didn't spring from the heart, but more like, ok, here goes...but remember, y'all are the ones who asked for it! It wasn't MY idea!

Again, I can't say whether or not this is true. But I tend to believe based on the quality of the work as compared with its forerunner...

I saw The Last Picture Show after I saw Texasville. It was pretty good but the references were more of my generation with Texasville then with TLPS.

I remember when we were driving up to Possum Kingdom, I think we drove through the town they used the courthouse scenes for in it.

Most of The Last Picture Show could have been filmed in my home town in the late 50's and early 60's. It was pure memories to me. I was living in Louisiana when I saw it, and it was all I could do after the movie not to drive back to the Panhandle.

I really liked Necessary Roughness. Very good flick with Kathy Ireland and Scott Bakula. What I should do is check it out one day and watch it all over again. You know, the funny thing is, back then, when the movie was filmed at UNT, the fictional school name used in the yarn was Texas State. Well, who would have thought that, a number of years later, we would have a real university that would have that name (albeit in San Marcos)? Too funny.

But if any of you haven't seen it, and you love comedy, get it. At least, rent it.
