Default Texans and their pickup trucks are here to stay regardless of rising gas prices

yep, that's my prediction. i cant imagine most of us Texans giving up their pickup trucks regardless of gas prices. (even those who aint haulin anything or needing a farm/ranch truck)
some of my friends/coworkers have bought or fixin to buy a small "commuter" car, but give up their trucks? hayull no.........i wont!

Well, I'm about to buy a smaller vehicle for most of my running around, but am NOT giving up my 1997 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel 2500 Ram pickup. It only just turned over 300,000 miles, has a lot of miles left in it, gets 22 mpg city/highway/empty/loaded, and is great for hauling hay/feed/towing a trailer with a tractor on it/etc.

This thread in the San Antonio forum would seem to indicate the opposite. Urban cowboys and cowgirls in these parts are making other choices.

OH, if you're talking about URBAN cowboys, well, sure, they're only driving pickups as an accessory. That's entirely different, and of course, if smaller cars are cool, they'll switch at the drop of a (cowboy) hat! Those are the ones with the trucks that have clearly never seen a caliche road enough to get dusty, never mind been driven through a pasture.

I have an older Ford 1/2 ton and a mustang. I like driving the truck better, easier to see around you, I'm used to sitting up higher, etc. but it hasn't been seeing much use lately. I'm thinking since the pricing on the trucks is getting better all the time to moving on up to a newer model since I've got to have a truck anyway for pulling the stock trailer/flatbed trailer, hauling feed, etc. I also think I'm going to sell the mustang (although it is fun to drive) and invest in a little Honda for everyday driving. The mustang is the first car I've owned since the sixties, all I ever drove was a truck and I like driving them a whole lot better than a car, but with these gas prices, sadly, it's going to get a lot of rest. That's just the way things are.

It will be difficult at first but as long as there are trailers and things that tro be trailered, $10/gallon won't stop the use of pickup trucks. However, if one is only hauling grandma to the doctor every week in a 12-mpg Ford F150, it probably makes more sense to carry her in a Honda.

Default Something For Me To Consider

The pickup will be my second vehicle. As soon as I get a little more money, I hope to invest in a Spanish villa in some rich neighborhood that will either be in Katy, West Plano or Frisco, and besides my impending third Saturn, I intend to have a backup vehicle (you can only guess what for), and a pickup would work great. Now if only someone would just have the unmitigated gall to work his/her brainpower and actually invent an engine that would eat up less gasoline (in other words, about sixty miles a gallon) and implement it with new vehicles, including a new pickup. It'll go peachy next to my possibly-planned new lear jet.

I have a small economy car, but I'm still watching for great deals on used pickup trucks. I can't live without one!

I love my pickup truck and will never own anything but a truck. I'm not a Texan either.

If you look the auto manufacturers have annouced alot of Hybrid trucks and SUV's. They know the demand is there and many people can't do much with a compact in their lifes. They learned from the 70's that as soon as the embargo was over people dumped their compacts for SUV. I am seeing alot of new trucks on the road with the crazy incentives like 8100 dollars;that wil but alot of gas.
