I had a hard time choosing between chicken-fried steak, BBQ, and fried catfish because I love them all. But I had to go with CFS. Living only a mile from Massey's Restaurant in Ft Worth may have had something to do with it.

Now, you'll never, ever, ever go wrong with CFS. It was invented right here in Texas.

Case 44
I found a wierd (but tasty) chili derivative in Cinncinatti - chili with spagehetti. The folks in Ohio also add a dash of cinnamon to their chili. It was actually quite tasty - but hardly Texan.

Good observation.
Spaghetti? With chili?? Cinnamon??? In chili?? Can you say 'ketchup on corn flakes'??

They DO put spaghetti in their chili in Cinncinatti... I saw them do it on a cooking show on TV. Absolutely NOTHING like chilli as we know it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and to think, they called it CHILI. UNREAL.
I know if you're not quite sure of the food in a new restraurant, CFS is always my pick. It can be screwed up, but not nearly as bad as some choices. I would pick CFS as #1 on the poll, but I'm with the others, I like them all!

I suggest we assign a day of the week for the top 7 vote getters. That allow a weeks worth of favorites.

Rakin is my hero. As long as we give our recepies. That makes me happy.

My mouth is watering just thinking about chicken fried steak. And I'm trying to lose weight! A no-win situation.
case44: That's why I picked CFS over BBQ and catfish. I thought it was more specifically Texan than they are. Curses, I need to stop thinking about all that great food! If Massey's were open right now, I'd be there.

I had to pick other, because there is nothing like a good juicy steak! I consider this a Texas thing because no other state that I've had a steak in could cook one as well as here. I lived in KY for 5 yrs and went to all the best steak places and none of them compared.
As far as the "spaghetti" chili.... it's true. There was a restaurant in Louisville called Skyline Chili and they had spaghetti noodles in their chili and it was sweet tasting chili. (absolutely disgusting)
Chicken fried steak and BBQ brisket would tie for 2nd place.
Turkey sausage for 3rd place.

Chili, I think it is historically the first.
