National Main Dish of Texas
Ok y'all,
What meat/fish item would you all vote on as being that which should represent Texas? Now, I realize that chili -- by an act of the Texas Legislature back in the 70's -- already takes that honor, so this is only if you personally had a say in the matter.
Remember, this is not personal preference, but rather your own opinion as to what if, say, a 100 random native Texans were to come to your supper table, what would suit most? Or better yet, WHICH would be most reflective of Texas history/culture/cruisine?
Here we go:

Calf fries, bull fries, turkey fries, or chicken fried steak with cream gravy, mashed taters, and green beans!
I had to go with "other", cause you didn't include FRIES! I stand by original statement.

It Starts With A B......
Whenever the question gets asked about the Texas "state dish" and you look at the listings about Texas, what's mentioned is chili. But when you deal with the 'national' food of Texas, there's only one real choice. That choice would be barbecue, folks. Great stuff no matter how you slice it. [ WRITER'S NOTE: A pun was actually intended.]
And since I haven't made my homemade BBQ sauce in a while, I think I'll go make some.

I had to vote for chicken fried steak because I had never heard of it until I moved to Texas.

How about Number 12 "all of the above"
How can anyone decide? Is a huge Rib Eye from Zentners Daughter in San Angelo better than BBQ from Lockhart? How about homemade chicken fry using real steak better than the best plate of Tamales from the Original Mexican Inn in Ft Worth?
I vote for "All the above". We're too big a state for just 1 best.

Yep, barbecue here, too.
(But how can a state's main dish be "national"?)
