Default National Veggie of Texas

Ok...ONE more poll, y'all. And after that, I swear I am outta here to go eat some of this good stuff! In THIS case, it is a variation as in what "vegetable" would be the one to best represent Texas?

Gosh, does mashed potatoes count

I've got my thoughts:
Blackeyed Peas
Okra
Squash
Zucchini
Green Beans

Then there is sweet potatoes. Texas IS a huge producer of Sweet Potatoes.

tomatoes
mashed potatoes
okra
any kind of peas: esp. snap and black eyed.
cucumbers

These are just some of the things we used to eat tons of. It seems that we had sliced tomatoes with every meal when I was growing up. My husband still does this and now my daughter as well. Oddly, Turnips were another veggie I grew up eating (although I didn't really like them). Oh, and beets (the pickled variety). Hot pickles and bread and butter pickles too.

Hey, guys. I believe TexasReb wanted to delete this thread because he's made revisions in a brand new thread and he wanted to use that.

Here's where: http://www.city-data.com/forum/texas...ish-texas.html
