Here are some photos of actual moving day. This was really a sad day but the moving of the entire village was something to see for sure. I was the official photographer hired to photgraph the entire move. I cannot post all of the photos for obvious reasons (space) so, I hope these will give you some idea of how the move went. This is the batch of photos that shows the resturant that was up front that served the great steaks everyone talks about. It was called El Rancho Escondido and Nick had regular customers as far west as Lordsburg, New Mexico. Now that's a good steak!

Here are the final photos of Old Franklin Town after it was moved & they changed the name to Wallacetown. I guess that was the name of one of the big investors. At one section of the town, they have an entry that says Old El Paso. The whole village was moved about 60 or 70 miles east of El Paso there off Montana east and the last time I was there (about 2 years ago), it was closed down & went belly up. It's a shame to see the place go to waste & wind up an old ghost town. I hope someone can buy the place & make it work. If Nick would have still owned the place, I think I would have been the first to go with him & be part of the old town. It really was great!!!

Enjoy & thanks for wanting to see the photos. It brought back some great memories.

Do you know what happened to it after it closed? Are the buildings still there? Can they be bought?

Thank You for the pictures.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. So many folks come up to me all the time & say I know you from somewhere & I'm sure it's all the old west towns & events that we have been to. Here is one of the more popular photos of me as a outlaw lawman. Thanks for the memories!

Muhnay, as far as I know, the buildings are still there but I can't offer much more then that. I spoke with a friend from El Paso a couple weeks ago who had been out past the place & he said it still looked closed to him? It's just down the road a few hundred yards from a whistle stop called Cornudas which is in the middle of no place. I kid you not, why they ever decided to move it there is beyond this old cowboy's comprehension.

Cornudas Texas.

Here's a website about the place but it seems there is no longer any information or photographs of the western wonder, lol.

The Jerry Wallace Company

Well, I guess the place has been sold again? I just found this website about the old west town. I had heard it was for sale on Ebay but thought that was a joke. I guess it wasn't???

Check it out at: A Sell of a Town: Texas Monthly July 2005

Lone Star Rebel,

Those are great pictures, and my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your wife.

Abilene also has a Western Heritage Festival in May, I think always on the first weekend. I enjoy the chuck wagon cook-off.

It is not "Old West" but it is still fun.

There is also a cowboy gathering in the Ft Worth Stockyards every year, there are many places in the Stockyards where you can get an old west feel.

Much obliged pard. I have heard of the festival there in Abilene and need to check it out next year. I'm sure there's plenty out there, I just need to get motivated again, lol. Thanks for the kind words about the Mrs.

So thats what became of WALLACE TOWN. Humm I wondered where he got the buildings from.. and that they did look very familiar.

I would love to buy the old buildings and move them back to El Paso.. Maybe tot he North East side of El Paso and set them up. Could be a great steak place and shops out here again, with a western flair. Or it would be great if Western Playland could buy them and set them up on his new park... that would be fantastic!
