Oh Hey LONE STAR, would you do me a big favor, and get some pictures of the river and the city and some stuff you like about San Angelo and post them for me?
I want to also say that I said from the very beginning ( its on here some place ) that the whole Wallace Town thing would fail, and it did.
Ouch my arm.. =) heh heh

I would love to buy the old buildings and move them back to El Paso.. Maybe tot he North East side of El Paso and set them up. Could be a great steak place and shops out here again, with a western flair. Or it would be great if Western Playland could buy them and set them up on his new park... that would be fantastic!

Well, I can't say for sure but... when the whole thing went down in El Paso, I had heard they paid some $375K for the buildings & then another $60K to have them moved out there to Cornudas. That's thru the grapevine so don't hold me to it. I never asked Nick about the deal because I just felt it was none of my business. I believe he mentioned they paid him $150K up front and the balance would come within 90 days. This was over-heard in a conversation he had with a customer in the steak house.
I hope he got what he was owed because Nick is a good man and I would hate to think that someone took advantage of him or his family. I do know my Mrs. was quite uspet when we got the news & had 30 days to clear everything out of the store. That really broke her heart when she found out Nick had sold the place but, we did understand and just moved on in life.
I haven't seen Nick in a couple of years & couldn't even tell you if the El Rancho Escondido is still open or not. Like I said earlier, I do know his lovely wife was pretty ill there for a while and Nick spent all his time taking care of her thus the reason for the sale of the Franklin Town Village. I don't say that was the main reason for the sale but, I'm sure it had a great deal to do with his decision to sell.

Yeah, I'm sure I can find some nice shots of the river area and get some other pics for you. It may take a bit but, I'll see what I can do. Yes, I did see your article on here about the whole Wallacetown thing and I was one of the few back then also who said it would fail for sure and as much as I hate to admit it, I actually won a bet on that very thing.

Question about the weather from morn. to night. Does it start out hot in the early morning? Is it humid at all? I am hoping it starts cooler and then gets hot, then the temperature cools at night.
Wishful thinking? I spent all day piping up a 15 ton A/C unit in the hot Sun, very humid here...hate it.
Thanks.

When I got up yesterday (6:30 a.m.) it was 86 degrees. By noon time it had already hit 100 and at 5:30 p.m. the outside thermometer in the kitchen window said it was 104 and that was in the shade. When I finally got to bed last night around 11:30, it was still 90 degrees. Now, we have been having a heat wave so don't let that guide your thought process on this is typical summer weather for San Angelo. Today's high I believe I heard was 101 around 6:00 this evening. The humidity so far this summer has not been too bad.

We left San Angelo in 1987 and are going to retire there next year. We visit about once a year and really love how friendly people are. It's nice to read good things about our future home.

I live here in San Angelo... been here since late 1998 (except for two years I had to do in Italy before I retired from the Navy). I'm 43, and from Calif. originally. Decided to retire here because of the low cost of living, reasonable housing costs, friendliness of the people, low crime overall, and good schools.
I can't say as I agree with you, LSR about the parks. When I first moved here in 1998, I moved to an area called "The Bluffs." There were about 90 percent less houses than there are now. But, as I have slowly watched over 200 houses go up in this area, we've yet to see ONE park placed in this housing subsect. There are tons of kids in this neighborhood with no where to play (that's a dangerous combination... kids and boredom).
The transit system in this city is moribund at best, also! There's no stops that I know of here in the Bluffs, and it's hard to get the kids to go somewhere unless I take them myself.
On the brighter side, there has been lots of growth since I moved here. Lowes and Walmart here had just opened up, and there wasn't a Sam's or Best Buy yet. But we also have Olive Garden, and many other establishments for us.
We have a mall, and several strip malls.
Refer to some of my other posts here in the Texas thread where I even supply links. Not sure this is where I want to retire permanently, but if I had to, there would be few complaints from me!! I've lived in 4 countries and over 10 cities across the US during my career in the Navy, and after seeing it all, I still decided to retire here for now!!

Here's a few photos of San Angelo taken from the ballroom at the top of the Cactus Hotel, and a photo of the river taken from the visitor's center.
