Oh I love the Black, Yellow and White ones..
After spending 4 grand on a pair of boots, the next ones I may get are the American flag ones.. I love the blue and white stars on the lower half.. and the stripes on the upper. And they are only 2 grand. =)

I do believe that the Twin Mountain Steakhouse is still there....they had the most awesome plate of "scraps" (pieces of melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin)...we used to go there all of the time.
I haven't seen Good Old Boys yet, but will make a point to do so. As far as Kelton goes, "The Time It Never Rained" was better-written than some of his later stuff, but I haven't read a lot. The library here is full of his novels, so I will read them at my leisure!

Yes... Hollands is still there... on Beauregard. Twin Mountains is still there, but I think losing some clientele to Logan's Roadhouse, Texas Roadhouse, and even Outback... all which have popped up over the last 5-7 years here. If you haven't been here in over... say... 7 years... you will see a huge explosion of commercial building (restaurants, other chains like Best Buy, Sam's, Ross, etc.).
The city continues to grow, but it's still good to get a "hello" or nod as you walk by people. Doesn't seem we're losing our small-town friendliness.

It has indeed grown! I was last there in April 2006, with my mom in Shannon Medical Center...and it was the first time I'd been back in many years. My dad and I went out to eat at Logan's Roadhouse...and if I had known that Texas Roadhouse was there, I would have gone there instead!!
I don't think San Angelo will ever lose that small-town feel.

I have been monitoring the temp's and humidity, the humidity seems to be much lower than the Austin area, how comfortable is the your city, I know the high temp's have been a factor lately, but my wife and I just can't stand high humidity.
Do we have to look further West, maybe Marfa, or Alpine???
Thanks.

I saw on the news tonight that Rodeos and Carnivals maybe a thing of the past if Gas prices keep rising like they are.. what do you think?

Sparky,
I'm assuming when you ask "how comfortable is the city" that you're referring to the weather since that seems to be the thrust of your post. Well... it's hot! lol But not unbearable so. Of course, my house has air conditioning, so I have my sanctuary. It does interfere with trying to plan days out at the lake. I don't think we've had a daily "high" below 95 in 3 weeks. But, again, with low humidity, it's not that bad. We've even had a couple rain showers in that period, but it didn't make it too muggy.
As to Marfa or Alpine, I've never heard of them. But if the heat's not a factor, just the humidity, I think overall San Angelo's a great place to live!

Angelo humidity is generally not high, but the area lakes will make it more humid than Marfa/Alpine, which are more desert than SA.
It also depends. What do you consider "high?" Austin and Central Texas are usually VERY humid, and the combination of high heat and humidity makes it feel like a sauna.
I don't like it above 25% myself!

I've been in the area since 2005 but, I don't get out much & was just looking for general conversation & possible things to do for a 52 year old widower here in the San Angelo area. Any input would surely be appreciated.

Hello there Lone Star Rebel.
I had the privilege of living in TX and am now back in England where I work in a Stately Home.
Last month I had the pleasure of meeting a couple from San Angelo who loved their visit.
It made my day.

Humidity
Rathagos and Cathy,
Thank you for your response, we now live in Kansas City Missouri, it is most always humid and miserable here, I am semi-retired from the Heating, Cooling, refrigeration and electrical business. I have been working on commercial air-conditioning every Summer on the roofs of town, time to get out of here.
We Love Texas, and have narrowed down the places we want to live, San Angelo is on the short list. I have tried to monitor the listed temperatures and humidity, but it is always good to hear from a local on the weather.
We spent 6 month's on South Padre Island this Winter, wonderful, but humid. We will sell our home here, and probably head to San Angelo for the Summers and Padre for the Winters, maybe sneak off to Tucson for a while.
The humidity in the 20's sounds super!
