San Angelo Area
It seems there are no threads on here about San Angelo & the surrounding area so, I thought I would start a thread & see if I can rouse anyone in the area to chat with on here. I see it covers the bigger cities but, here in the San Angelo area... all those places are quite a drive, lol.
I've been in the area since 2005 but, I don't get out much & was just looking for general conversation & possible things to do for a 52 year old widower here in the San Angelo area. Any input would surely be appreciated.

Well, we haven't had any lately. Here's a suggestion if you're interested in all things San Angelo. Use the search icon and you'll get a box and just type in the key words San Angelo and be sure to keep Show Threads highlighted, then click GO. Hopefully, that will help you.
We'll see if we can get this thread hopping.

I surely do appreciate the input there pard. I hope we can get the thread hopping as well. It's always good to talk with local folks. I love talkin' to out of towners as well but, there's no place like home!

You'll have to settle for out-of-towners like me for now. There are a few San Angelo folks on here, but the usernames escape me at this moment. Sorry. But they're out there. In the meantime, just hang out with our Texas people on the Texas threads for a while. We'll keep you company.

There were a few threads on San Angelo after all. I sure do appreciate the info there Case44. I love to talk with the out-of-towners also because I have learned a lot about Texas towns I haven't had the chance to visit. I relocated to San Angelo back in Spring 05 from El Paso and spent the first year & a half taken care of my wife who passed on in October 06 from cancer. I spent the next year getting thru that & spent a great deal of time doing some badly needed remodeling and am just now starting to settle in.
There's not much around for the old west re-enacting in the area (which is a love of mine) so I have been hoping to hook up with some good old fashioned county music players who would like to get together on weekends & do some good old country jamming. I'm not looking to start a band or anything of that nature, just wanted to get back into another love of mine I have put aside for a few years is all.
At my age I'm not looking forward to the dating scene so, I need to find something to occupy my time. I'm a retired OTR trucker (forced retirement-disabled) and I simply have too much time on my hands.

Looks like no local takers yet so we'll move the thread up to the front where they can better see it.

I am considering a move there, why don't you kick start the conversation and tell us a bit about the city. Likes, dislikes.. general impression of the city.

Lone Star Rebel,
There are not to many places in Texas that cater a lot to the Old West. There are many that have occasional festivals and special events.
If you can, do a little travelling to see some of the old-west re-enacting. Head up to Abilene to Frontier Texas, you will see the the way the area looked 100s of years ago.
Go to Anson to the Cowboy Christmas Ball in December.
I am sure Alpine TX has good events with their Cowboy Poetry festival.
I am sure there are more.

Bicycle riding in the area
We have bikes we take on all our trips, I am hoping that San Angelo area has good bike trails and areas safe for riding. I won't ride on streets competing with traffic, I have noticed sometimes people don't even see my big truck, let alone a bike.
When we were in San Antonio, there was a really nice paved road along the river South of town.
Thanks in advance.
